The previous owner of my tacoma was doing some work on the radiator and ended up losing the bolts. These are the bolts that hold the radiator in place.

Besides taking the radiator to the hardware store and trying different bolts until one fits, is there a way to find the size?

Is there a tech sheet that would specify the bolt size?

This is for a 99 tacoma 4 cylinder.

I would pop in and ask the dealer part shop. They will have a schematic that includes the bolt part numbers. You can them get the sizes and just go to Lowes or Home Dept or whatever and get a similar bolt.

I just bought 2 bolts for my front bottom pan at the Dealer, it cost $2.50. It only takes 4 bolts anyway, just pick them up there as it's easier.

    agree with above ^^^^^^^

you might get the right size bolt but the threads may not be an exact match and you don't want "close enough"

also make sure you have the little bottom piece that goes on the bottom or the fan shroud and the clips for it, they are often left off or missing and the engine cools better if it is in place

get them at the dealer and know that its right, I bet there are a few other things you might need at the dealer too so do a good inspection on everything especially maint related to be sure there are no other screws nuts or bolts missing anywhere. if he lost or left some things off you better bet there are other stuff missing too.

Nearest dealer is about an hour drive one way.

I found a single bolt in a bodylift bracket. Going to take that bolt to lowes, maybe find a good replacement.

I think the head of the bolt was 12mm and is course thread.

Anyone know how to figure the thread size from the size of the head with metric?

I don't, but if you have a bolt that works, you can match it at Lowes. I am not sure if there is a correlation to thread and head size, as there are many many similar sized heads on these metric bolts, but differing threads (I think).

Call the dealer, ask for parts, and ask them to give you the bolt/thread size. They should do that for you.

if its the radiator guard bolts they are 10mm but the actual radiator to frame bolts I believe are 12mm (looks like 1/2")

if I were you I would go to napa to match it, they have a better selection of metric automotive nuts and bolts

since you are replacing all of them the threads size and how coarse they are is what matters so the head size and weather its metric or SAE is secondary but its always best to try to stay with original stuff

    According to my tap it a 8mm - 1.25, and yes it's a 12mm head.

    Thanks guys.

I went to a local lowes store and the found some bolts that matched up perfectly.

The bolts are a Hillman brand name.

    Size: M8-1.25 x 25
