So I'm flushing the coolant system but have a question.

    If I:
    1. Drain the radiator
    2. Add Distilled water and run the truck so it circulates.
    3. Drain again
    4. Add distilled and do another flush.

    yada yada yada

it calls for a 50/50 mix i know. but it also says that the engine block contains about 50% of the fluids. So if I do these flushes with distilled water that means when I go to fill it with the 50/50 mix I need to take into account that there's the distilled water in the block still.
Meaning that the mix I put into the radiator should be closer to a 75/25 (Coolant/water) so that when it mixes with the rest of the water in the block it will be 50/50.

    Yes? No?

If you are flushing with distilled, I would add the 50% amount of straight coolant, then top off with as much distilled as needed. Also, draining the block is pretty easy, just need a few extensions.

At some point, you need to flush with 50/50 and run it until it cycles to get the distilled out of the block. And of course, continue to let it cycle to burp/bleed the system to get the air bubbles out. By that time, you should have all 50/50 in the system.

I have read many angles on this so far. Some say drain and fill, some say drain, fill, run the engine, top it off and repeat.

Anyone got a link to a write-up on flushing the coolant? I just need a solid method for this.

    I did
    drain, fill with distilled
    run for 10 minutes
    fill with coolant.

went to Moab and all just fine.
