I need help with my radio. I just installed an after market double din radio from Amazon. The radio initially worked great with no issues at all. Then after a few weeks it worked great visually but no sound. Everything was still attached great with no unattached wires.

I looked online and found a video that I will link below where I attached the blue wire with a white strip to the red wires. The radio now works great when driving without any issues but now will turn on after 2-3 min after I turn the truck off and take the key out. I have even pressed and held the power button on the radio till it powered off and then turned off the truck. 2-3 mins later it’s back on without me doing or pressing anything. This has caused it to drained my battery and now needed to be jumped twice. I think it’s an issue with the radio and not the truck but worth a shot for anyone willing to help

Attached is what mine looks like. In the video he said not to plug it into the yellow wire because that is constant power and will drain the battery

That video is specific to the truck shown in the video, the headunit he is using, and the wiring adapters he is using. You can't just assume that his red wire is the same as your red wire and make the connection as shown. You need to understand what each wire is actually for in order to figure out where you went wrong.

The truck I have, had a single din aftermarket radio already installed with an updated plug adapter. Everything was plugged in right but I think I figured it out. I cut the constant power (yellow) which seams to have fixed the issue but time will tell. The radio works perfectly like I want where the radio powers on only when the truck is on. Thanks again for the help

I would love to know just what you connected to that caused the truck to start a few minutes later .

Does your truck have a remote start you connected to by mistake ??

I don’t have a remote start but wish I did. At first I thought I wired it wrong but after looking up 1996 Tacoma wiring diagram everything was wired correctly. I have an updated plug adapter that switches the stock wiring to updated colors such as stock grey power to red power and stock blue/yellow to yellow constant power. Following the 1996 Tacoma wiring guide and tracing the lines everything was wired correctly.

I honestly just think it’s an issue with the aftermarket radio. I google the brand and symptoms and sounds like other people also have been having the issue. No issues for me post cutting the yellow wire so far but will update if something happens. Thanks again

I would love to know just how the radio harness was connected to the starting circuit .

The timing makes it even more interesting.

in any case good luck this is so interesting

I think the OP said that the radio turned itself on after he turned the truck off and removed the key. In any event, he appears to have solved the problem.

So new issue. I think I figured it out but worth talking to other people to see if my theory makes since. While in idle no issues with the radio. While driving especially highway speeds and loud music the radio keeps rebooting its self.

My theory is because I cut the yellow wire (constant power) and the only power is the red wire (switched ignition power) the radio gets fluctuations in power from the red wire causing it to have to reboot its self vs if the yellow wire was attached while running then constant power/no need to reboot.

My idea for a fix is a toggle switch between the yellow wire and the radio. When I want to use the radio toggle the switch. When turning off the vehicle turn off the toggle switch so it doesn’t drain the battery. Any other ideas or is my theory crazy?

Past the return window. Plus I really like the radio when it works. Frustrating that it’s not just plug and play and it’s doing this but I think I wanna figure it out.
