Over the last 3 or 4 weeks, the stereo ("Premium" but not "JBL") in my truck has been cutting out/shutting off at what seems like very random times. Once it was when I activated the right-hand turn signal while sitting still at a traffic light. It's also happened a couple of times during hard acceleration (e.g.: merging onto the highway) or when shifting into reverse. However, I can't find any way to reliably replicate the problem.

When I say "cutting out", I mean it acts like it was turned off. If I press the power button, it'll come back on just fine (it takes 30 seconds or so, but considering it's booting up an OS, that's understandable).

My first thought was a bad ground, but that seems unlikely given the age (I've had it 10 months and about 6,400 miles). The frustrating part is that I'm sure the dealer will say they can't do anything since it can't be reproduced (which I totally get; I've worked in tech support long enough to know that that's true).

I did some searching on the web but can't find anything specific to 3rd gens. Anyone else seen or heard of this issue? Anyone know if the radio cutting out like that would trigger something that could be pulled from the computer (not sure what actually gets logged in there).

It'll be due for its 6-month service in January, so I'll have them check it out then. It's not frequent enough to be annoying...yet.

Our work Tundra did this the other day. I was taking a boat to the ramp for a test run. While backing the boat down the ramp the radio shut down. I didnt think anything of it, but then after the run, pulling the boat out of the water it did it again. Parked the truck, got out to secure everything and heard it shut down again. Once I got away from the launch area it has not done it again. Not sure what to think of that.
I know this doesn't help your situation, but it tells me it is not specific to a certain model truck. Could be an Entune software issue.

Mine just did it it twice in 3 days, both times, when I was adjusting the climate control....

Did anyone get resolution on why radio cuts out?
My seems to do it after receiving a text message or email thru the head unit

My 2020 Pro radio cuts out every once in a while while playing Bluetooth. It almost always happens soon after I start the truck and drive off.

I had random reboots on my '17 TRD headunit, went through all the checks with phone, software updates etc...

Turned out to be that the microSd flash card for the map was crapping out at random times,
to confirm I just popped out the SD card and the radio never rebooted after that.
New map card and not one reboot either.

Real easy test for the 16-19 radios...

Mine was random at first then started to happen at the same location every day, and continue to reboot every 2 mnutes. So, I removed the sd card after the first reboot. No issues since.

I already had updated it, Toyota even replaced the headunit. The only fix was to change SD cards.

Change or permanently remove? I have been thinking about updating the map data, but I really don't see much value in it.

Change, my sd card is corrupt. You can permanently remove it but you will loose your compass in the dash. I'm going to try and get Toyota to replace under warranty, just haven't heard back from them yet.

    Good stuff.

Yup. The card is the map data. I have put it to use maybe twice. Works okay enough, but it ain't no Google, Gaia, etc.
