Anyone know where to connect the dimmer wire from an aftermarket Head unit so the display dims with the dash light knob on the Dash?

Did you get a harness adapter or are you cutting the factory harness? With the adapter harness, it’s the orange wire in the harness adapter.

    Thanks

Depends which radio you had (JBL or non JBL) but Illumination + is going to be a green wire and Illumination - is going to be a Brown/White Wire.
Just a note Toyota controls illumination brightness on the Ground side, Power side receives full battery voltage when the lights are on.

I believe one of the first diagnosis I helped with here on TW was due to a blown dimmer.
I think @Jimmyh might remember that one, I think there is a wire you don’t use on Toyota.
Or at least not on some units. If the dimmer blows, it will send full brightness to all the gauges. You can’t adjust the brightness. It was a weird case, I learned something anyways.

Depends on the radio but alot of aftermarket radios simply use a switched 12v input to trigger it to dim the screen and don't do variable dimming.

    I have no idea.
I was more interested in the diagnosis.
I figured blowing the dimmer would have caused no lights.
But it was just the opposite, full brightness.

    We finally figured it out.

The original complaint was not being able to dim the lights.
It had nothing to do with a radio, but that is what caused it.
Guy bought the truck that way. iIRC
