The radio in my 2000 Tacoma stopped working. I've checked the fuses and they are fine. Anybody know what might be my problem?

Slip the unit out, undo the harness, and use a DVM to check the incoming harness. If the voltages look good, it's internal to the unit.

Likely a tested used unit will be a more cost effective option than a professional repair of the radio. Unless you someone trained in that (like ex military) who has the right gear and enjoys doing it.

It's AC correct? How much voltage am I looking for? Also there are two plugs- one blue and one white- any thoughts on which would be supplying power?

No, its DC. Like your battery. 12v.

One plug probably has a constant to retain preset memory, regardless of key position.

The other plug likely is switched, meaning it powers up when you have the key in acc/on, allowing you to turn on the tunes.

Thanks. I'm not getting a reading with the meter. Should I assume that somewhere between the fuse and the harness something is wrong?

You are set on DCV, and have the black probe of the meter well grounded when you are trying your reading, right?

And the ignition key in the on position?

Ok. So each plug has several holes. After checking each hole individually I finally did get a reading on the blue plug with the ignition on. The white plug has no power though.

I also put the meter into the fuse box and got nothing for the radio fuse.

    Any thoughts?

You should test the continuity of the fuses, just because it doesn't look blown it still might be. Just turn the multimeter to that setting on you can check it without pulling the fuses out, they have small strips of metal showing on the top of each fuse for that reason.

    Get some help

The green wire is switched power Blue /Yellow stripe is the constant power

A fuse should be measured positive lead of the meter on the fuse to a good ground with the black lead for voltage .

Across the fuse for continuity set to OHMS

It does happen the power switches on the radios do fail I had one quit a while back.
