Hello everyone, I have 1999 prerunner TRD ( 1st Gen )out of the blue the radio has no power. I already check all the fuses that relate to radio ( inside box lower left side, engine box ), all the other things work properly such as cig, door chim, door lock, clock, int light...no fuse is blow, and again radio is only one that has no power, I ran out the clue. Does anyone know? Please help

Have you put a volt-meter on the power wire to the radio?

That will tell you if it is a circuitry problem, or a radio problem.

No, I have not try to test the power wire yet. Hoping for the quick fix solution by replacing the bad fuses. I guess the next step is to remove radio out to check the power wire

Did you actually check the connection of the fuse(s) with a volt/ohm meter? Sometimes it might look good, but there's a slight break. Might save you the effort of pulling the deck...

I don't know if the radios in our trucks do have a dedicated fuse, but some cars do (not the one in the fuse box, the one onto the radio itself, on the packpanel), so check that fuse if there is one. While you have the radio removed from the dash, test both the radio and wiring harness connections with a voltmeter to see if there's a problem there

To my understand, there is no inline fuse for factory radio, but I will check for sure once I removed the radio

Radio is on the accessory fuse IIRC...

And I'd bet the radio finally bit it. Toyota builds great engines... but electrical components and body parts seem to be their kryptonite.

I will post the result once I able to pull out the radio sometime next week

Radios are easy to pull in these trucks.

Unbolt center bezel trim (like 2 bolts on the bottom and 2 screws by radio)... and the radio is held to the dash by 4 bolts I think.

    Simple.

I just checked my old factory radio and they don't have fuses on the back like many aftermarket ones.

My radio recently lost power (but also the door locks and a couple lights) so I checked the fuses both visually and with a meter, and they all looked fine and had continuity. After looking a wiring diagrams I decided it HAD to be a fuse because of the electronics that weren't working, so I started replacing fuses and my power came back. I eventually found the bad fuse, but I thought it was super strange that it measured fine on a meter the first time I tested it. After removing it a couple times, you could see the broken connection.

Anyway, that was just my experience. I doubt yours is fuse related since it's just the radio and no other electronics that aren't working. Like others have said, get a meter on the power wires and that should put you in the right direction.

yep had the exact same thing happen to my 2000 factory radio CD, TAPE, AM/FM the works. Turned key one day and nothing, acted like it was disconnected from the wiring. All fuses ok, all power to rear of radio ok. Put on bench and ripped her guts out. Found R753 open. This lets the computer in the radio know that the Ign sw was turned on. problem is the signal never reached the computer so It just would not turn on. Replaced open resistor and back in business, what a job. good luck

Great trouble shooting dmg! Is that resistor I'd on the board? With the value also?

Mine went out after I bought it, same thing looked at every fuse possible.
Ended up getting one on eBay for 50.00.
I took the old one apart, for curiosity.
One of the electrical things on one of the circuit boards disappeared couldn’t even find it in the radio case.

New/old one off eBay works well.

    Fellas,
All the same issue with the radio. Going to tear into the her and was wondering if anyone had some good directions how to get to this R753 open sounds like that is the issue. I've read that in a couple spots now.
    All help appreciated
    Thanks

    Quick Update:
Through an aftermarket radio I had in there and it worked. So there is definitely something wrong with the stock radio itself.
Can't seem to find that R753 open. Couldn't find any diagrams or pictures either. Still want to fix it.

I found the resistor. It's labeled on the board but not the resistance value. it's a tiny surface mount component, would be very hard for me to replace and I read power to ground on both sides so does not appear to be open.
Bought a junkyard one and swapping out face plate and cd modules didn't fix it so it's something else. Hope this one lasts
