    hello.

This morning my radio screen turned white. Shut the engine and it was still just white. I had to take the battery terminals off and restart. After a couple of minutes of putting the terminals back on and driving about a km the screen went back to normal. I'm guessing the system rebooted but why would it do that in the first place?

I'm thinking of getting an aftermarket double din that would work with the factory harness and also allow me to use the rear backup camera. Anyone out there replace their head units with an aftermarket one that allows them to use the stock connections and camera? Dvd function a plus.

    Thanks.

Ps 2014 taco sr5 with no gps.

Based on my experience on my 2009, could be different for the 14.

Due to Toyota being proprietary, I am pretty sure there is no aftermarket system that is just plug and play. I could not know of one, but I'm pretty sure they all need a harness of some sort.

In terms of a system that allows you to your backup camera, that can be tricky. Aftermarket head units use an RCA jack for the camera input, which Toyota does not.

I had to cut an RCA video cable, and solder on a D-sub pin to the two wires, and push the pins into the harness used for the stock backup camera.

Here is a link showing what I needed to do:

Again, this is based on what I did on my 2009 when I installed my Pioneer 8100-NEX double din

The harnesses are real easy to install though, most are plug and play. The harness for mine plugged into the stock plugs, and I only had to splice two or three wires.
If you have bluetooth and XM, they will not carry over to your new head unit, because again, Toyota is proprietary. I needed a new microphone for bluetooth, and a new tuner for XM.
If you get an aftermarket head unit with bluetooth and GPS built in, it will usually come with a microphone and GPS antenna, you just need to place the microphone and gps antenna.

I hope all that makes sense.
