Yes sir, follow the fuckery here - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/kwiks-80-series-land-cruiser-bs-thread.752018/

I plan to redo almost all the wiring, but being my daily now I need to plan it right. I've got leather replacements on the way for the 2nd row seating. 3rd row seating will sit in storage while I figure out what I'll do for the fronts.

When seats come up and out, it'll be the best time to add sound dampening and run new wiring.

Would you be willing to share either the source for the schematic, or a photo of the resistor location? I've been doing my own searching for a while and can't find either. Plenty of wiring diagrams for installation are out there, but none for repair.

Yeah mine decided to quit working after a good freeze late dec. '22 ... Glad i found this thread to perhaps help the troubleshooting - if i find tyhe schem's i will post. i yanked mine not long after it happened & checked my constant & ignition power to ground and all s well in those respects, so yeah this has been a bit confusing as i had never had an issue either (& i happen to love my stock radio esp b/c of the tape player, but i also just like keeping some things stock) ... also i need to get this thing powered so i can retrieve my music from it's icy grasp lol. Probs gonna go disconnect the battery here in a few & see if that anything. Also i did a general web search & came up w/ a forum that was discussing sometimes they 'lock' & a code is needed to 'unlock' & has to be done in a certain way & a certain number of times ... but i also do not know whether their stereo units were 'bricked' or if they were showing power but not working ... will do more research on that & try to have an answer.

Mine was working but the CD died. I'm a stock guy, not an auto audiophile, picked one up off fleabay, pristine, $125. I know it will die again someday but see attachment. The old one lives on a 12v PS in the garage for the radio only.

I had a few of the stock radios just die as everything is all on the board without the board schematic nothing I can do.

In most cases you can pick up the stock radios pretty cheap I got a few for shipping costs when users up grade to aftermarket.

I was going to take them to The local radio repair tech but since I have them replaced I just never did.

Update: I disconnected the battery for a good while yesterday afternoon while i cleaned the battery & terms off from some acid & corrosion while i was bs'ng w/ a friend so probs about an hour, when i hooked it back up it didnt even spit out the cd & tape - like it has No power whatsoever, so i can only guess fried board or some such thing. I went back thru my searches & found the site where i came across the 'locked' issue, & it seems everyone who had that problem theirs had power & was giving them some sort of an error code ... so yeah mine is a brick at present. i didnt end up pulling it out again b/c it was time to have a few beers & play some horseshoes w/ a buddy i dont get to visit w/ very often. Got work to do & rain coming in so it will be a few days before i get around to pulling the unit again. bah.

I have been doing that for years 12VDC power supply assorted different factory radios and speakers over 40 plus years.

Then one also needs an antenna.

Well, I think I overpaid for it, don't think it was the same one. I wanted one that would get a little CD time out of it, it was clean and works well, for now. It'll die eventually.

Probably well known, bad fuses can’t be verified by just looking for signs of a burnt or broken element. One of mine was bad and showed absolutely no signs of being so. Coincidentally, it was the radio/cig and clock fuse at driver door fuse panel.

Probably been suggested, but getting the unit somehow hooked up externally would tell you. You might have to bring it into an car audio shop and get charged some. Years ago I found a radio with CD player on Ebay. Gotta make very sure it matches the numbers on the back of your existing unit if it turns out yours is bad. Also, I believe radio/cd units have their own separate inline fuse as a safety feature. Also, fuses that control the radio most often control other dash components. If no other dash components are affected, it’s almost for sure your radio is bad.

Thanks. yeah i do need to yank it out again & tear into it a bit - i was thinking (hoping) there is perhaps a small fuse on the board, but others have noted perhaps it is a bad resistor ...
