Nope so far so good .... knock on Entune!
Time will tell, since the locking up comes randomly.

Mine's fixed. I found the issue to be too many contacts stored on my phone. When the phone gets gets over 1500 or so, Entune wigs out. My iphone for some reason was storing a contact for my dial in bridge for work every time i dialed it (over 2000 times). Once we updated the Entune software and I cleaned up my contacts, I was all good.

I don't think their recommendation sounds crazy at all. When you're talking about bluetooth pairing with hundreds of different models of phones whose software is constantly updating, these types of bugs are inevitable.

Maybe someone here will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe any device that uses "Bluetooth" uses a standard program that was developed for Bluetooth devices such as your head unit. What does that mean, well to me it means that the head unit should be able to link up with any iPhone or Android device that uses the Bluetooth standard with out any problems, pure and simple. So if your head unit is locking up, like mine does randomly, it not a problem with your phone its a problem with the software that Toyota developed or bought that they use in their head units. Specifically what software they have added on to integrate with the Bluetooth standard software. Toyota is doing a silly song and dance on anyone who has had a problem with their head unit locking up by saying its your iPhone or Android phone software or that you may have to many contacts on your phone, hogwash! If you have delete your contacts on your phone in order for the head unit to not be constantly locking up that tells me the problem is the head unit software, period. It should be able to upload your contact list be it one or one thousand contacts without a problem other then maybe some lag in the boot up.

Actually when you synch up for the first time, Entune gives you a warning if you have over 1500 contacts.

Interoperability between computer systems over standard protocols is extremely common, and even moreso with Bluetooth due to the consumer electronics nature of it. It's frustrating, but certainly not exclusive to Entune. We have constant issues with Bluetooth peripherals in our house. Usually the remedy is to re-pair, reboot, etc; much like what's happening with our radios.

Do you notice rebooting with bad weather?

It just rained here yesterday for the first time since about 1990, so definitely no correlation there.

Mine had the issue, long story short.... I recorded several videos of it rebooting, so I went to my dealer, and they reset it by disconnecting my battery. It wasn't fixed so I went back and they replaced it 3 days later. 8 months later and not one more reboot

If it's still rebooting today, can you try the troubleshooting steps that I posted in the other thread and see if it stops?
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-when-its-raining.425652/page-4#post-13304646

Go to Setup>HD Data Setting >Select 'Enable Data Download via HD Only

I had an hour or so when mine was in reboot mode and I had time to play with it. This fixed my issues, but would love to see if it's repeatable.

I believe that maybe the weather app trying to push data via phone is causing issues when the radar is really busy. Just a theory.

I made the change and drove it around for 30 minutes and it hasn't restarted since. So far so good.

Thanks for doing that. Please keep us posted. I think we may be on to something.

I went to the dealer and they couldnt' replicate the issue nor did they care that I had it on video from my cell phone. I took it to the dealership that I bought it from and they said to hang tight that a firmware update was due in the next couple of days.

Sure enough the update popped up two days later and I have not had any issues since.

Keep in mind mine is a 2017 TRD Off Road 4x4 non JBL.

When did you have the firmware update done? How long did the dealer take to do it?

It updated about 2 weeks ago. I just had a message pop up on the touch screen. It asked if I wanted to update firmware and apps. I chose yes and and it took about 10 mins to complete as I drove.

Was it the Entune software update? My software updated like that a couple weeks ago too. I was told the firmware update had to be done through a dealer.

RyanL you're probably you're probably right about the update method. I really didn't read much on the screen other than it was an update and if I wanted to update. I was driving when I noticed it.

The Service Advisor said the updated would come up on the radio screen.

On a side note, he did ask me to make sure my iOS or Android software and music apps were up to date since they stream Bluetooth signal. Mine were up to date since before I bought the truck and at the time of the radio being updated.

Ever since the radio did its thing it's been fine.

Got it, thanks. Guess I'm not as lucky ... updated Entune, updated apps, good weather, not too many contacts ... stereo still crashes daily.

Is the update OVA or do we have to bring the truck in. I have an 07 with the 2014 radio, will it matter?
