Hi all, I have a 1997 which I recently purchased. Came with the original radio with cassette player but it’s completely dead. Checked the fuses both inside and under the hood. All is well there. What are my next steps? I have absolutely no electronics experience but I’m determined to give this a shot.

Check the wiring to the radio. Maybe it's not hooked up. Otherwise, it may be time for a new unit. I recommend Crutchfield.

Just replace the unit with a modern one that has Bluetooth and USB, etc; You can get a decent one for $100! If you wants CD player, that can still be had for less than $140...

You bought it with a dead radio? I'm willing to bet that the previous owner had an aftermarket installed, then swapped the original back without properly wiring it before selling.

Might have to pull the radio. And if you are doing that, might as well replace it while its pulled.

I actually saw this with a 2008ish Ford F-150 that was traded in at the dealership where I used to work detailing cars...

The truck was 10 years old at the time, but mint and with relatively low miles for its age; The previous owner did hook the factory radio up correctly, but the truck had an aftermarket backup camera and I initially could not figure out why the truck had backup camera that literally went nowhere. We assumed that the owner took their expensive head unit with them when they traded the truck...

Fairly common actually. Especially the installs where they cut the original harness. They remember to keep the radio, but forget to keep the harness connector.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Sadly the next step is to pull the radio check for voltage at the truck side plug .

Any one close to you that can help .

For what it is worth I removed the aftermarket radio that worked and went back to the Toyota radio I don`t need all that fancy stuff I will never use.
