I have a 2012 Tacoma. The radio only works when it's pretty cold outside. When it is cold outside and the radio works, once I drive the truck for awhile and turn it off, when restarting the radio will not turn on. I have replaced the fuses under the steering wheel and under the hood associated with the radio. It has to be something effected by heat, but I can't figure it out. The cigarette lighter outlets were also not working but I switched the fuse and they work now. I've seen other threads on this but I still have not found answer that works.

Your factory radio is 10 years old. They are known for failure at one of the control chips/heat sinks after a few years. Sometimes they power up but no sound - amp chip/heat sink separation failure. No power - main IC power circuit failure. That ones usually a broken solder joint. Sounds like that’s what you have. Cold, everything’s tight. As it heats up, it separates, causing an issue like yours.

Only fix is to replace. Dealers are crazy expensive. You might find one in the BST section here. Other option is to buy an aftermarket stereo with the features you want.

Thanks. That's what I figured was my course of action, based on other threads I have read. But I just want to make sure I do my research before dropping $$$ on a new radio if it's just a quick fix that I am not aware of.

Quick fix would be hitting the bone yard get one for 125.00 or so, and take the hour to throw it in
