My ex gf locked her keys in her Hyundai out in the middle on nowhere one time. I was standing there trying to figure out what to do and noticed a piece of wire in a fence. Was able to pry the edge of the door and grab the handle just as you said.

Now I'm back home and received my new plasma cutter and started drinking and thinking all kinds of crazy thoughts. To add to the exasperation, my neighbor's dog just shit on my lawn and didn't pick it up.

If this goes south, once my wife gets home I've got to hide my plasma cutter, the beer, my neighbor, his dog and pretend I'm sober.

You're always the voice of reason. But, I'll just bugger up the door and/or the glass. If there's no good options by tomorrow I'm going through one of the back windows or through the grill trying to pop the hood. Probably should do the faux pro grill first.

If you use some plastic or nylon pry tools at the very top edge of the door l think you would be ok. I managed to only leave a couple marks on her Hyundai jamming sticks in there, lol. I would save the grille option for last if you can.

I'm not sure anyone here has gone that route. The door and window molding is really thick. I'm looking up the cost of a back window, the sliding one has to be the cheapest.

On my last Tundra I wanted a source of 12 vdc in the bed that was always hot. I would connect a small inverter to power some small test equipment.

I just installed one of those cigarette lighter sockets wired directly to the battery.

So if you are really worried you could do that. Then connect a power source to it to back feed the battery. I don’t imagine it takes much juice to allow the manual key to work.

I know you already tried this, but I just pulled up the 2017 owner's manual and it says that turning the mechanical key rearward will manually unlock the door. (Turning it forward unlocks all doors, which wouldn't work without power)

The hood is shut, doors locked and no way in without force.

I'm pretty sure that's with power. I'm waiting for someone to test this without power with a MT or SR and convince me I'm not losing my mind.

If anyone does, keep the passenger door open.

@Grossomotto so neither the valet key nor the key in the fob will unlock the drivers door? Keys go into the lock and it will turn but it does not unlock? I just tried on my 2019 and both work to unlock the door (no unlocking of the other doors) and lock (fires all of the door locks). I have the battery connected but I will try disconnected and report back.

Might the lock mechanism be jammed up somehow?

It's the key and fob in one. It turns right and left in the drivers door lock and nothing unlocks. Just turns both ways, nothing jammed. This is MT, no push start and no power. If you test it, keep the passenger door open, don't get locked out.

Ok, it tried it with the battery disconnected and both the fob key and valet key will lock/unlock the door. Your best bet will be a professional locksmith to open the door with a some sort of 'slimjim' or similar. My truck is a AT TRD OF but I doubt the power door lock assemblies would be different.

Locksmith is at least $200 and he'll use a slim jim and charge me $200 even if he can't get in.

Seriously, thanks for checking. I'm thinking I got the Friday built Tacoma. I'm really not sure why it's not working. But, one thing I do remember, when I went to lock the door a month ago it wouldn't lock with the key in the drivers door, I reached in and turned the tumbler to lock and shut the door. Wish I was smarter a month ago.

There is a small but not zero chance that something has come undone in the door mechanism. There is a rod that the tumbler operates connected to the actual lock assembly (if i remember correctly) that could have come disconnected. Either way its the locksmith or <insert damage to gain access>.

Call a mobile wildshield replacement service? At least then you get a new windshield out of the deal, instead of a smashed glass mess!

The grim reality is starting to sink in. I'm waiting a day for the TW gurus to convince me whether going through the grill or the back sliding window is a better option. I'm thinking the back middle window. I'm already $55k into this thing, what's a little broken glass?
