get a sports car if you want to go fast would be my suggestion.
rev limiter is designed by the engineers to protect the engine from itself.

I'm pretty sure you can remove the rev limiter with a programmer or fancy tuner but you can pretty much kiss your engine good bye unless you have upgraded the parts under the hood to take the higher RPMs.

You will probably lose power unless you port out your intake/exhaust valves (your idle will be higher and a bit more rough)...

I kind of disagree with the above, this engine is has a relatively short stroke and Im surprised the rev limit is set so low. However, most of your internals are Cast, not Forged so I would be carefull.

^^ exactly, get a supercharger or do a full engine build but if you want to raise the limiter, get a standalone engine managment system.

Many modded engines have the piston speed at 3500 ft/min. Many race engines are around 4000 ft/min. Fully built nascar, and F1 engines are a little higher. That being said, at the 5500 RPM redline of the 5vz engine, the pistons are traveling 2959 ft/min. Bumping it to 6000 RPM brings that speed to 3228 ft/min, which is just a bit lower than many modded engines with decently built internals. SO...given the math, it seems the 5500 RPM redline is right on par with where it should be at, as most manufactures stray with piston speeds of 3000 ft/min.

I find this to be an impressively knowlegeable post.

tell me about it!! The engine on my Accord has a redline of 7100 RPM, and a piston speed of 4600!! I dont know how they do it!

He said 3228 which he further said was just shy of modded engine speeds. Either way, point taken

Chris, Ill trade accords. My redlines around 6000 but cutoff at ~5500...

According to here, honda holds 6 of the top 10 fastest engines, including #1 and #3.

I like that S2000 engine. That's such a fun little car! I'd love to have one as a summer driver.
