my next project is a DIY roof rack... if you haven't seen the thread, it looks pretty nice. got it all figured out to fit a DC.

Going to use a steel pipe, like the prinsu does for their spacers. Cut it down to size. Then build the rack like the thread shows. Bolt through the rack, through the spacer and into the truck (for the rear mounts). The tricky part is the front mounting holes are at an angle. So I plan to do this up front...

But instead of a "L" bracket like the pictures shows, I'll use a "U" bracket. Hole in the bottom. Bolt through it, through the cut pipe spacer and into the truck mounting holes. Then slide the rack bar into the "U" bracket. 2 Bolts through that.

 

Interested to see the outcome before I try and copy

 

Then get a thin sheet of aluminum long enough to span the whole rack. Cut it nice and pretty and go down the sides of the rack to make it look good. And possibly a piece in the front if I can figure that out.
