Just trying to eliminate possible "electrical" issues. I mean locking hubs can still suffer the same issues as an ADD with water intrusion, just less computer/switched controlled stuff. Now I wish our trucks were more shift on the fly like some of the other makes so we could get into 4hi or 4lo with a lot less mucking around being in park or neutral and stopped. Mine has not been an issue at all either.

An enterprising lad would find a clutch cancel switch from current model manual truck and repurpose it to kill the front diff engage function as desired.
This leaves the option of 2wd LOW RANGE that comes in very useful on trail where idling along between obstacles is the norm, also very useful when maneuvering trailers and such.
The clutch cancel switch is a normally on latching relay that stays off when operated but defaults to on and allowing normal function when ignition is cycled. Using a regular switch would work too.
Either way you would need to pay attention and know when it’s on or off (my third gen 4wd engage switch is in the front axle, killing the VSV before engaging 4lo disallows the front axle to engage even though the drive shaft is turning)

Hmmmmm that is interesting. There is someone selling a 2lo computer on here but this is a far simpler way. But the clutch switch is a momentary switch if you wanted to just have 2lo on a constant lets say hill decent or yanking a boat up a ramp though having a momentary may be burdensome. Or am I reading your explanation incorrectly?

Prerunner is fine and good for a lot of folks. But I just have strong opposition to buying a truck or SUV that isn’t 4x4. Personal preference.
