I didnt clean my truck well after the last uwharrie trip and I'm paying for it now

 

Dust shield sits behind the hub and is sandwiched between the hub and knuckle/spindle.

What Tim has said so far is a great start. What are you hitting with a hammer the axle or the hub?

 

The hub itself. I cant get the axle pushed through the hub itself

 

How big are your broken hammers? Lol

 

I am going to end up removing those dust shields anyways.

Damn.. Somethings got to be beat to hell if you broke 2 4lb hammers. Pics!

 

pull the whole spindle assembly off, knock the hub out from the backside.

 

Take a ball peen hammer use the peen end put it in the center of the axle and hit it with another hammer. Also detach the lower ball joint and sway bar and swing the knuckle as far out as you can to stretch the CV joints this way the axle has some room to move backwards. Hitting the axle like this won't damage the threads and it shocks it sometimes it'll break the grip corrosion has on it.

But it also sounds like he can't get the axle free from the hub.

 

The axle moves fine, it's the hub that wont move at all

 

I just cant push the axle through all the way. I dont have enough room

if he hasn’t released the lower ball joint it won’t compress enough to push out.

when the hub does come off, you don’t need to swing the spindle out.....rust sucks

 

I am not in the mood to be taking the whole spindle off. Lol someone wanting to come help with this? I'm lacking in tools. Majority if what I need is in Durham

 

Sounds like we need to have a parking lot party tomorrow afternoon. Who's wanting to come lend a helping hand. I'm out of mechanic work now.

I don't have any broken hammers all of mine get new handles if they get broken

Dude it's an extra 10-15min. Sometimes you'll get the job done a lot faster by taking the extra few minutes to make life easier for yourself than to fight something trying to shortcut it.
