Ahhhh okay. Weird that google won’t list that up front

either way, I’m a Jeep guy. When it comes to hauling something, that’s why I bought a Super Duty.

Wait, my gorilla glue won’t work on metal too?

    damnit! I knew I shouldn’t have bought a 10 gallon drum!

seriously.. I need to learn to weld. Next goal is learning to forge knives. Woodworking is something I was raised around. My grandpa had probably a 250k Woodworking shop (back in the late 90s) that I’d kill to have now. Forging is so interesting to me so soon I’ll be moving in that direction but I feel like learning basics in welding is mandatory beforehand

I think the best way to learn how to weld is to pick up a stick welder, watch some YouTube videos and go practice. Once you learn to stick weld you will understand the process and have the ability to quickly pickup any other process of welding (mig + tig)

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
I cheated and went straight to MIG. Best lesson I ever got was to just start sticking stuff together. I bought some coupons in the mail and work on beads, controlling heat, speed, welder settings. I got a small TIG now that I do the same with. There are some good fundamentals that I need to learn with a stick but maybe someday. Stick welders are a dime a dozen on Marketplace, but shit still ain't free I know.

I forgot about the tags you got. Sell some meat when you get back and to buy the welder then. Good luck!

Ain't no 100% right way to do it, time and practice make more of a difference. I just feel like starting with mig is kinda starting in the middle. The principles are the same but stick is closer to tig and gives you a head start.

@Dangerdave the book is cheaper than a welder from HF lol

Stick is what I learned on, got to the point striking and carrying an arc on anything but the crappiest metal was a nonissue.
Watching your puddle and developing a feel for weave and speed for given application are things to concentrate on.
The bonus of mig is you don’t have to adjust your hand for rod length as it is consumed. But you don’t get the feel of the metal melting in the process.

I remember asking my dad to show me how to stick weld when I was 10 years old with his Lincoln buzz box, he showed me how and I remember it like it was yesterday. That was almost 35 years ago and he still uses that welder today.
