I will give you the benefit of the doubt for at least not saying that "BBQ" is a grill, or a backyard event with friends and family. And, while I may disagree with what you say about pork vs brisket, as an American I will defend your right to say it.

 

Big Mikes in Apex (also Cary) has great brisket. Burnt ends on Saturdays IIRC...

 

I'm just glad they don't have that sweet ketchup based sauce around here. Mustard and or vinegar based FTW!!!

 

Log Cabin BBQ in Albemarle, NC on Hwy 52 has an amazing vinegar sauce!! They are my go-to for BBQ close to home. That's the best around me. Other than that, Woodstone in FLorence, SC has the best vinegar sauce I have ever tasted!

 

So do any of you all do woodwork? Trying to refinish this old chest I found. Wondering what type of wood it is????

Brisket harder to cook an if done right is way more flavorful. I dont like the NC sauces so always just have the meat. Pork is delicious Brisket is just better 85% of the time. So 60%of the time it works everytime lol

 

I do woodworking as a hobby but am not super great at identifying wood lol. It looks like oak to me though. How hard is it? Can you push your fingernail into it?

 

It will mark a little with my fingernail I was thinking it cherry it has a very odd smell not cedar smell but a distinct smell where I am sanding off whatever they put on it. It has alot of little flecks groves etc

 

Okay call me crazy but I wonder if it was burned for that effect. If it’s textured that could be why. Definitely not oak if you can get a fingernail pressed in it.

 

It almost feels like old paste wax or I dunno. Really I just know its old realllly old. The work on it was amazing
