That was the exact noise mine was making from the rear most u-joint before it completely f'd up.

 

I figured it was but thought grease would quiet it or change it. @RaleighTaco I want to order some for my truck, need to figure out which ones you need.

 

Maybe all of them? Lol not sure how difficult they are to do but I know there not that expensive

was grease coming out of each bearing cap seal after you were done ? and did you get the grease fitting in the CENTER of the CV joint ?

from experience, you will not get the CV U joints from a parts store, can only get them from a driveline shop, as well as the center ball in the CV, TOYOTA dealer does not sell the CV joints or ball either. the rear joint and the slip can be had OEM from dealer.

I've had a time finding a shop that is able to make the shaft STRAIGHT when it's rebuilt, sent a salvage yard shaft to Olivers, got it back with "new" CV head on it ( $125 for the shaft from salvage, $255 to Olivers for their contribution ) it had a vibe at 65-70 mph, I lived with it until it failed ( about 25k miles or ~2 years ) it tossed a cap on the CV end while wife was driving.

had Fleet Pride rebuild the shaft MULTIPLE times, still has vibe, and is not straight ( I posted video of this a few weeks ago), $275 ish in the FleetPride attempt(s).

I had a friend at Leith, quoted me $850 for new OEM shaft, I should have done it then, thought I was taking the cheaper route having it rebuilt. List is about $1100 for new OEM rear shaft.

If' you have better luck than I've had, let me know, I'll sink more $$$ into mine.

 

I did order joints from Olivers for the original shaft for my Runner, and no, it's not tough to do, the reason I didn't keep that shaft in is because the caps were spinning in the yokes, the yokes were stretched out. I peened the bores with a center punch but that wasn't enough. It also had a vibe at speed. I still have it as a spare and will run it it if needed.

Grease came out of each bearing cap. And I'm 99% sure any parts store will sell the u joints. We bought some for a second gen a month or so ago from napa in Troy nc.

No worries! We got it all done. Took off the bumper and bumper plate lol. Only had a small issue with the switch and that was a mental error on my end. Big thanks to @Sandman614 and @nastyneight though!

 

the joints in the CV are a different size than the one in the slip and unless something has changed, they are not available at regular parts stores. a parts store that has dealt with these maybe, I've been thru this. need the center ball repair kit as well.
