I had repurposed the power antenna switch on my '85 to run the winch controls, used the switch that killed the power windows as an on/off (had converted power windows to operate with key off, that switch was annoying) it all fit in center console locations and looks like it belonged there.

I have a "clutch cancel" switch, it's self resetting magnetic switch. Normally off, push to activate, once it looses power (key off) it defaults back to off. It is a Toyota switch out of a late '80's early '90s truck, if you're interested
winch controls you want in easy unobstructed reach, overhead may get tiring in an extended pull session ( it could happen ).

Is there any way to cause the engine to "idle up" ? IE, hit a button to increase engine RPM as desired ? some GM vehicles can be programmed this way thru ECM wiring trickery, on the diesel trucks its for running a PTO accessory, and is a cruise control button sequence to get them to bump 500-800rpm over idle.

Fly by wire has made it tough to add thumb throttle or the like. would be nice to have a way to get the RPM's up to keep the alternator charging at optimum while winching.

Wasn't there someone on here who makes a switch panel that fits in front of the automatic shifter for 2nd gens?

I'm trying to avoid the Iggy panel because I use that space. I'm not putting them overhead because I use both of those pockets. I'm tossing around the the idea if the right knee pocket.

knee pocket would be a decent choice, its an odd shaped space few things fit there well, i know i wouldn't miss it

 

Now that I've upgraded to Bluetooth I don't even need it for my aux port.
