How come? Turn the ignition on and see if the fuel pump is coming on. It should sound like a high pitched whirr / whine.

It could be a quick disconnect system too. Either way there should be a way to determine if you have fuel pressure.

3rd gens are direct injected right? How sensitive is the high pressure fuel pump to being run dry?

I find it hard to believe that running out of gas one time destroys your fuel pump! Something else has to be going on here.

you went full Kramer and came back with a report! I'm impressed!

Back in the day you could just prime the carb. I got this old Lawn Boy. it needs a shot of starting fluid to get going, but she jumps to life on that first pull.

I’d pull a plug and see if you have gas smell. I’d even try a shot of starting fluid (not Kingston’s charcoal starter, but spray ether) in the intake after the filter. If it fires a few rounds you have air and spark. That’s 2 of three things that makes an engine run.

Actually I have! I just sold my 2009 Corvette about 6 months ago. But I never let my gas tanks go below the half way point before filling up so the OP's scenario would never apply to this closet Prepper!

Check fuses? EFI and /or Fuel systems fuses.
Power to the pump? Is it running when cranking?

Something else is going on here, I'd get it to a good tech before replacing anymore parts undiagnosed.

Not a fuel system expert but you know how diesel lines have to be purged before they restart? Could the high pressure DI system require the same? Never had an issue starting port/TBI/carb vehicles without purging.

Agreed. Remember there is a high pressure fuel pump on the engine. I am betting that getting this onto Techstream will help troubleshooting significantly.
