I have a bit over 6k on my Tacoma, and experienced what I am assuming is just one of the quirks of the transmission, albeit a bit more dramatic than it has ever done before. Driving up a slight incline at probably 35mph, making a 90 degree left hand turn that I slowed to probably 10-15 mph, then transitioning out of that turn into a slight incline, the transmission downshifted what seemed like several gears, so drastic I thought I had somehow knocked it into neutral, which made me react by taking my foot off of the gas, and it pretty much immediately upshifted. I was throttling pretty lightly, and when it tached high due to the downshift, I hadn't applied any more throttle. It seemed more or less good to go after that. Any thoughts? Thanks all.

Sounds normal. The Tacoma transmission has a bit of a unique personality.

Unfortunately, this is normal for this transmission. Between the insane sudden downshifts and the up shift clunk some trucks have, they can be quite startling to drive sometimes. Toyota says it’s all normal.

Normal. It goes away after a while. For me, it stopped after about 8k miles

sounds normal for me. if i'm not in manual mode, it tends to do that on every left hand turn. get up to 15-20-ish mph as i approach, it upshifts through to 4th-5th, let off the gas at the turn, it upshifts to 6th/idle. exiting the turn and get on teh gas slightly to get to the 35mph speed limit, it then dumps from 6th to 2nd, bogs, drops to 1st, screams for 30 seconds at redline then shifts to 2nd, then 3rd, then 4th, then 5th...
