6”rough country lift, 35” bfg mud terrain, step bars, home made solid 5" bull bar frame mounted top and bottom with gussets ( used an excavator to completely suspend the truck in the air held only by the bull bar), 180k, no rust, no leaks, no cel's, no issues. 4wd conversion with front and rear e-lockers.
Which makes me wonder if the issues in the tranny or not.. its an auto.. i know the fluid is all new and full. But not too full.. maybe somethings loose up inside or whatever.. dont know enough about transmission guts to say if anything was.. but always hits gears and is smooth.. dunno..

I had a slightly similar issue and resolved it by finding a broken AC wire behind the glove box. The A/C clutch was constantly engaging and disengaging, regardless if AC was on or off.

My 02 3.4 is having similar issues, although no problem with refueling.
After inadvertently ordering the wrong tps (35020; the right tps for 02, but not for 02 3.4 made after a certain production date FML, 35030 is correct tps) I found just the tps for sale online without having to buy the entire TB. It’s arriving tomorrow morning according to tracking, so then I will be able to see if it’s the tps that’s the culprit or the APPS, or both, or neither…

Yea im halfway thinking its some kind of discrepancy between the pedal position sensor inside the cab and the tps on the TB.. because they have 2 for some reason. Both should sit around 9-13% on idle and at most 73% with wide open throttle. Either way with live data pids up driving i can see both fluctuating with the surge while accelerating. As well as the voltage to that stupid motor in the throttle body.. but for all i know i could have a vacuum hose in the wrong spot causing the issue.. ive replaced the fuel pump, fuel regulator, plugs, wires, coils, cleaned the maf and tb thoroughly, new timing belt and the valves and cams were nice and clean inside including valve seats having no buildup.. tranny’s full and new filter, new oil. Fuel filter, all evap lines, solenoids and sensors all tested fine..
The fueling issue was from a damn anti siphon flapper deal inside the tank. Had to drop it to reach my arm in through the hole where the fuel pump assembly goes and remove that stupid thing.. is on the end on the filer neck, toyota doesnt sell the part and say its apart of the tank. The thing clips on.. but i guess over the 20 yrs that flapper turned into a stucker. So i turned it into garbage..

I did however just find some kinda issue with the abs. Every wheel speed sensor has a code as well as the 3 actuator relays saying low voltage and deceleration sensor says malfunction. However when running diag active tests everything responds and passes all tests but after clearing codes the dtc’s all come right back.. so could have something to do with that damn models c

The source of the surging in my truck was from the catalytic converter. The honeycomb was all buss inside, creating a rattling noise when the ignition would turn over. Ended up bypassing the catalytic converter; my CEL is on because of that, but it’s running cherry again now.

Interesting, I hadn't thought about the catalytic converter, I just developed a p0171 code also so I'll have to look into that.

The catalytic converter bypass followed a myriad of other repairs/parts replacements, including: valve covers + gaskets, PCV valve, fuel filter, throttle body & MAF deep clean, TCP, complete timing belt, coils, and I’m prolly forgetting something. Only the Cat bypass completely solved the surging issue. The other repairs/replacements needed to be done routinely anyways.
