    Hi all,

    Its been a long time since I have posted, but Ive been going through a annoying problem the past month. On my 98 5VZ-FE Tacoma (274,000 Miles), the check engine light will start blinking around the 50-55 MPH mark. It blinks from 3 times to close to 20 times. As I slow down, it sometimes quits blinking, or sometimes it wont stop blinking. Then the Check Engine light will stay on. Ive changed both the middle and rear Advanced Auto coil packs (One being the #2 and #5 coil pack) put all Toyota coil wires, and all Toyota spark plugs. The light still comes on usually whenever I accelerate in the 50 - 55 mph range. This-evening hopefully I will change the fuel filter and clean out the Catalytic Converter, and see if that helps any. Any suggestions, help, or knowledge of the situation would be VERY helpful! It is annoying driving on Limp Mode every 3 days! Thanks!

    This is what my truck is doing, minus the blinking. I changed the fuel injector, fuel filter, checked the coil packs swapped them around and I still get a p0302

    that's where I started. tried two different brands. it is the weirdest dang thing I have ever had happen that I cant figure out. one thing I did notice the other night when I checked the oil is my valve cover gaskets are starting to leak. so I am hoping that the spark plug tube seal is letting oil down there causing it to misfire. I have retired the old girl from being a daily driver to haulig the boat and dirtbike

    Have you guys considered using a code reader/scanner ?? Your symptoms are sure to throw some codes , probably stored & a good reader will pick them up & display , it'll save you alot of time & $$$ from chasing down what you can pin point in a couple minutes...

    If you've replaced all the usual things (plugs/wires/ even coil packs) Then it would seem to me that it might be emissions related...

    Having an Ultra gauge helps with codes, and it cost about the same as a decent OBDII reader anyway......

    You could always go to a local Auto Parts store, Auto Zone and Advance will read it for free, then go from there...

    I'd be interested to know if you ever figured this out as I'm having the exact same problem.

    Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
    FWIW: On occasion, this can be traced to a bad engine ground. Find your engine ground, take it apart on both ends, sand clean, apply dielectric grease, reconnect. Take the time at this point though to go over any other grounds you can find, clean and reassemble. It's worth a try and has often been a remedy for multiple cylinder misfire condition.

    OP bumped this twice after his initial posting, but never came back to acknowledge responses to his thread or any resolution. Too many threads simply die this way, and no one gains any knowledge on this unique problem. It's been 3 years, seems like enough time for it to have been fixed by now.

    I had a random problem like this with no check engine light granted it was on a different vehicle. Inline 6 with distributor cap. Intermittent missfire cylinders 2,4,6. could happen when first starting or when im on the highway. Figured out it was the harness going to my fuel injectors where 3 of the 7 pins (1 for ground) were green and corroded. I would check the fuel injector plugs make sure they are clean and run the harness make sure there aren't any connection issues.

    @Opihi59

    I agree. It's a shame when a unique issue solution doesn't get updated.

    (Rant On) Not just on TW, but on numerous forums many useful threads quickly deteriorate into Off Topic subjects, random insults and innuendos, and generally worthless input. Of course Mods or even contributors provide input to keep the thread focused, but when an OP makes a series of rapid posts to generate interest, and then never shows back up to provide feedback, resolution information, or further input, well, that's just irresponsible. (Rant OFF)

    We can only wonder.
