Random no start and eventual turn over

This truck (01' Prerunner) sat over the weekend. I DD it M-F for work. I went to start it to day and it tried to turn over but wouldn't. I tried again, riding the starter and it wouldn't again. I let it sit for min and then tried again, pumping the gas a little as it did start but was running incredibly rough. The exhaust let out a shit ton of smoke. After that it seemed to be running fine and I started it multiple times today after that and have had no issues.

My fuel tank was low - at empty - so wondering if that was a culprit or a bad batch of gas at the end of the tank.

I've never had this happened before. Does anyone have any idea what it could be or what to check to rule out anything?
