ok its starting to get cold and i noticed that if my truck sits over night when the weather gets cold that when I start it it rattles, but when it warms up it stops instantly. Is this normal? Have any of you seen this happen before?
Because in all honesty it scared the hell out of me when I started hearing it
hope yall can help me with this one

This is only happening with a cold motor?

This is only happening when being cranked?

Hmm, I'd look at the exhaust shrouds, cooling shrouds, etc. You might have to try and move them before you start it up. Then start it up with the hood open and see if you can see what is rattling

now my Papaw worked at toyota for 20 somethin years and he sad that it could be something called a knock sensor. Meaning that it does that just to pretty much warn you not to drive it until it warms up but idk if thats what it is because ive never heard of that

LMAO, yes they have knock sensors but that's not what they are for or what they do.

Knock = detonation = pre-ignition. The sensor(s) tell the ECU if the timing needs adjusted.
