This happened to a guy I know, he had a FBI tracking devis placed under his cab, he found it, and posted pics of it on the internet and the FBI freaked out at him.

    Careful what you google.

    Is it plug-n-play?

Can you not just unplug it and discard it?

scheduled an appointment for tomorrow. 11am. guaranteed they aren't going to know what it is and or what to do about it. should i just demand it be removed and a regular OBD port be put in there? since it is wired into the OBD port, can they just pull it out of the port without damaging it? or do i need a whole new port?

Just as you would all imagine.

take it in. guy at service desk comes out to look at it. first thing he says is it is from the alarm. i say no. its for tracking. Tacoma World figured it out for you. he says again, nah. its for the alarm. they have a 3rd party company install the alarms on the trucks and they were supposed to tuck that back into the panel on the side. he said he would get a guy to do it. i said HELL NO. i want that cable gone. and it isn't from the alarm. showed him the post with the youtube vid. (THANKS @jmaack ). He then said he would get someone who knew more. the guy walks up and says "this is aftermarket" i say. cool. well then i want a new truck because i bought this thing BRAND NEW from you and haven't put any "AFTER MARKET" parts on it. and if you guys don't know why this is here and are telling me it is aftermarket then we have problems. so they get another guy. he comes and says it isn't the alarm, but that the guys that install alarms on the truck put these on for them so they can have GPS tracking while the truck is on the lot. i said "i had this ordered for me. i picked it up the day after you guys got it. why would you have this put on there" he said they just do. the guys that do it weren't at the dealership that day, they only come every other day or something. so they are going to come to me to remove it.

i don't know what to do. seems weird and sketchy. anyone out there buy their truck from Manhattan Beach Toyota? can you check your OBD port. see if you have an extra wire sticking out of it. maybe you do, but they just did a better job of tucking it away?
