I'm new here, as this is my first post I've got a 99 tacoma 3.4 4x4 in the summer when gaining elevation on the freeway after driving for about 40 minates the truck will just die and run and die for a few seconds and won't start up for about an hour after it dies completely the dash lights stay on no check engine light everything normal just dosent start and dies at the randomness times. Anyone have anything similar?

    Welcome!!

You mean once it stalls it will crank but not start??

So if you don`t climb stay flat and level it will keep running ??

Like it will drive in town all day no problem??

    Only during the summer ??

Just where does the truck live ??

    Best Guess !

From what you stated I would look at the fuel pump and the fuel pump circuit .

It seems something gets hot and opens does not work till it cools down.

    Is this a new problem??

After it dies it cranks just dosent start it did it last summer and has been doing it this summer around town it Has never died driving around town only on the freeway anytime after 40 minutes of driving under a load it has only ever done it in the summer it lives around 3,000ft but spends a lot of time higher then that up to 10,000 just takes along time getting there in the summer time

    last fuel filter?

The amount of gas in tank makes no difference?

I agree that this smells like a fuel pump issue.

Would you start with fuel pump? Or what would you start with to narrow it down?

I'm thinking maybe the crank position sensor or cam position sensor is shorting out when it gets too hot. Just something else to consider if the fuel pump and fuel pump circuit check out ok. I'm thinking if it is something electronic not working when hot it's more likely to be something mounted on the engine if it only happens under a heavy load when the engine gets hotter. When it does stop working you might be able to do some basic tests like check for spark and check the resistance of the cam and crank sensors.

A failed cam or crank sensor will trip the Mil right away .

Giving You the blinking MIL Danger Will Robinson type of warning

    Shutting off the fuel .

Yet the OP is not getting any Codes

Before changing things it is a pain but check if you have voltage at pin 1 of the circuit opening relay while cranking next time it quits my 2000 that is the blue wire yours might be different .

That is the wire going to the fuel pump if you have voltage at the Circuit Opening Relay the issue is either the wiring or the pump.

If no voltage Either The EFI or The Circuit opening Relay

Is the circuit opening relay the one under the dash by the steering wheel? Also today when I started it it ran rough for a few senconds idling and was shaking a little bit missing just a little until started to drive. Just a single key in ignition

    That would be correct .

Unless someone has done interesting wiring in the past

So when it does it agian check for power at pin 1 is that when cranking?
    Test light or ohm meter?
Could this issue cause rough idle or misfire?

Your reading Voltage so volt meter range on a multi meter

Reduced Voltage will cause the pump to run slower so you want the real number

Correct while cranking after your in the engine not running problem

If your fuel pump is getting worse it sure will and not trip a random PO300 code

So on the relay I had 13.6 volts normal and when it died I had 12.8 and this time it started up about a minate later but this time it happened in town after driving for about 20 minates and it was idling for about 20 minates
