Rant: You don’t need a recovery hook on your mall crawler.

The question is who really cares? I don’t have one, but honestly does any vehicle need anything else added to it? Does a sports car need to go faster? Does a truck need a recovery hitch? No, but it who gives a shit?

Can you list examples of where this has happened?

I only ask because none of the examples you listed fit. Even the one you listed twice. Except for the first one that did not get rear ended at all, but overloaded towing a trailer, they are all examples of people being rear ended AND their frame bent where the hitch is mounted. None mention a ball being mounted at the time. Your last example where he was hit towing a trailer being the obvious exception, but the OP later reported:

"Frame is not bent....just on the ends where the hitch was bolted to which is fixable. He said the Hidden Hitch saved the frame....you can clearly see it's bent in the middle. Total cost. $700. Sweet, I'm happy. 2 days to fix and I get a brand new hitch with it all."

Someone rear ends you and you have a ball mounted in your hitch, you first punch through all the crumple zone shit. The first thing to hit that ball capable of bending the frame would be the engine. So basically you are saying if someone rear ends you and smashes the fuck out of your truck but their engine stops just shy of your hitch, but where your ball would have been had it been inserted, then maybe you saved the frame.

If you live in a city full of uninsured drivers, its hit and run insurance. My brother was rear ended by a hit and run driver while in his Toyota with tube bumpers and a hitch on the Bay Bridge in San Francisco. The guy impailed his radiator on my brothers hitch doing it l, but took off. The cops followed the trail of coolant and ATF left by the fleeing perpetrator to his disabled car a few miles away and caught the guy

    False,

the ex-girlfriend got rear ended driving my junk. My drop hitch took the force with only a spec of paint transfer showing from the car that hit her. My taco would have had significant damage if it wasnt for the drop hitch. The car was totaled..

edit: going through old posts and found that there was also paint transfer on my rear bumper that I forgot about..

2000 Tundra, with 6" drop in receiver. (Reese brand drop) Had an old man who'd had a few too many shots of gin to run into the back of said Tundra while I was stopped at a traffic light. He was driving an S10 Chevy (don't know year) He destroyed his bumper, grill radiator, trans cooler, fan, and any chance of continuing to drive with a license.

Tundra had zero dollars and no cents damage. Scuff mark on trailer ball.

There's my "physics" and "facts". YMMV.

Had this happen driving my first truck, ruined a Cavalier. Probably didn't help it much having CHP jumping on the front to get us unstuck. Maybe it's part of his flood awareness protocol. I wouldn't mind seeing a tennis ball jammed on there though.

Or when the people of Seattle wanted to boycott the Shell Oil Rig berthing at terminal 5 by blocking it in their petroleum-based kayaks? o_O That was a hoot to watch from the bridge overlook.

FTFY... love the part of the petroleum-based kayaks part...

    Start Rant...

It is seriously ironic how "these" people complain about coal/plastic/pollution/water/nuclear/bicycles/etc yet how did all that stuff get to your big box store?
How did Amazon get it to then deliver it to your house while that same person "thinks" they are saving the environment by bicycling to work?
How did your overnight package the from BFE to Seattle? The snowflake fairy?

These are the same people that vote a transit system yet don't realize where that "mystery money" is coming from: "WAIT! Why did my car tabs triple!?!"

It's as if the dots didn't get connected..

    End Rant...

And on the same coin, voted no to increased property taxes, then complained when the bus system had to cut stops and routes that would have been funded by them. Western Washington is a place that people just love to complain about things.

I like how this went from the "recovery hook rant" to the "let's get everything off their chest rant". It seems very therapeutic haha

    I vote. Big difference.

Love talking to my cousins who complain about WA representatives, initiatives, etc then when you ask them how they voted, they chose the incumbent option they don't like... Trying to avoid politics per the rules, but if you don't like something in your life, you gotta do something different in response.
