Hey guys, brand new member / Tacoma owner here, so my questions' may be a bit noobish, but here goes:

As I've been looking through aftermarket parts for my truck, I keep seeing a lot of grilles with the Raptor lighting.
Is the lighting functional whatsoever in terms of actually illuminating anything, or is mostly aesthetic.
I am no wiz in the least with vehicle wiring, but are they easy to install?

There's no functional purpose to raptor lights.

They were made to imitate Ford Raptors. THey're usually to designate a vehicle is over 80" wide (not including the side mirrors). So maybe if you get some super wide fender flares, there's a purpose. But ultimately they are aesthetic.

Thank you for your reply, man.

So there is no unspoken rule that if I get them for my TRD sport, then I'm a douche, or a poser?

    Oh look, another mod....
    It's purely aesthetic.

To some yes, to others no.

I say get whatever you want for your truck. As long as it isn't detracting from your trucks capability, or a nuisance/hazard to other people, go for it. And even the detracting aspect is entirely up to you. Not everyone needs a rock crawler.

I'd much rather see raptor lights on every other Tacoma from here on out, than be blinded by one more goober who thinks any LED pod works as a fog light.

Once upon a time, I had raptor lights on my taco. But after a while I got over them and one of the lights burned out, so I just pulled them.

Many will agree they are bad ass.
    Most care less.
    Some care not.

I’m in the first category and I’m in the latter category regarding those who are there.

Yes... Must be why mine came with them lol. Oh well, theyve grown on me. When one burns out, I'll take them all off. Till then, I'll keep on douchin' and posin'

Same! I pulled my raptor lights from my grill after one went out and another had condensation.

Yes, kinda. I'm of the opinion that if there is no function, then I'm not interested. But at the end of the day, it's your truck, do what you like.

Thank you, everyone for your replies, definitely helpful to get the opinions of those more seasoned in the Tacoma universe.
I really dig the Raptor lights, like a lot, but I didn’t know if putting them on your truck was breaking some rule; like playing stairway to heaven at a guitar shop, or being the desperate jagoff that hits on every chick at the bar. Both of which I’ve done, lol.

Thanks again, guys; I’m definitely going to grab me a set of them soon.

Who follows the rules on the road? Lol.

Look at all those amazing halogen housings and their LED "upgrades" blinding the fuck out of everyone...

But seriously, with this style of ambient lighting, it's your truck, do what you want. There is no law saying that's what they are used for and if there was, who TF is going to enforce it outside of CHP...

Are you sure you aren't talking about the scoop? Now that has some serious growth factor.

To the OP, personally I never understood why people were in such a rush to make their truck look like a Ford, but the bottom line is there is only one opinion that matters: yours. If you like them, get them, it's your truck. Oh and welcome to TW :)
