Just finished installing the iJDMTOY 3 piece Amber LED grille lights on a 2018 Tacoma SR | access cab. They seem to be solid quality. With some planning and creativity, these mount anywhere on the grille insert. They are brighter than I was expecting, and they match the color of the Daylight Running Lights that came stock on mine. I cant imagine I'm the only one out here who is interested in this install. So I am getting some conversation going. If anyone else has some experience with these, it would be cool to hear your thoughts.

    Heres a few pictures.

do they turn on automatically when you turn on your truck or do you have to hit a switch?

Welcome to the forum. I think they look GREAT.

Just goes to show that we aren't all fans of the Pro grill. :anonymous:

I wired them into the EFI No3 fuse slot under the hood with an add a fuse ( it controls the fuel pump, ignition switch , and starter relay) so it comes on when u put the keys in and turn it. Its also quick spliced into the DRL on the headlights
( pink wire that feeds into the Left headlight wire harness) , so it will stay on when the headlights are on. Ultimately, they are on all the time from the time I insert my key, and turn it. Since its going to the EFI fuse slot ( which is always getting power once the key is in) , I believe its unnecessary to splice it to the headlight with that set up. I did not use a switch, but i do believe i will most likely add one. I like the idea of having the capability to switch on or off . Hope that makes sense.

I spent many of hours contemplating a new grille. But for now, ill stick with the one I have. I ended up liking this look more once it all got installed.

I do like the look of the all black mesh looking grille insert as well.

There really is no right or wrong way to wire them. It depends on what you want.
I wanted a very low invasion method. No splicing into factory wiring, etc. Using an add-a-fuse was the simplest.

I initially connected my Raptor style grill lights with an add-a-fuse to the EFI 3 fuse. The lights were on whenever the ignition switch was on. Just like I wanted. Or so I thought...

EFI 3 turns back on for an emission test after 5 hours. I'm not sure how long.

The INJ fuse will perform like the EFI 3 fuse, except NOT turn itself back on for an emission test. So I moved my add-a-fuse to the INJ fuse. It NOW works just like I want.

Note: I "think" that what I stated above is true for all gen 3 Tacomas, but I only have the one 2019 SR5 to go by. One of the good things is that this method doesn't Bubba up any of the factory wiring. To change it, all I had to do was move the add-a-fuse to another spot. :)

I also label my add-a-fuses, for later reference.

Edit: I thought about it some, and am left wondering why you'd want them to turn off when your headlights are on? :notsure:

Mine are noticeable during the daytime, but even more noticeable at night. Hmmm...

I noticed the lights are staying on after I turn the truck off ( this is with the EFI add a fuse setup I have now) I did also notice they turned back on for a brief moment later on as well, must be the emission test as well. Ill try the INJ fuse and see how that goes. Also gonna have to agree with you on keeping them ON with the headlights, they are noticeable and I like that look as well.

I think avoiding any sort of splicing into the factory wiring is going to potentially save some time/headaches later on if I ever need to change out that wiring harness. For now, Im okay with it. Thanks for the response. Glad people are interested in having these discussions.

    Cheers,

I like keeping wiring changes simple, and reversible. With no footprints.

Please let us know what you end up with.

I have these, but have been wondering if you can use the fuse for the foglights.
Since my fogs are amber also, I would like them on/off with the fogs.
That and it makes more sense to have them on only in situations when the foglights are necessary, like constant hazard lights.

Glad to see others are interested in keeping the SR grill. Personally like it more than the TRD grill everyone seems to have. Added some lights to mine last night as well.

I just went with a cheap $175 aftermarket grill with lights already in it. Spliced those in with the DRL.
Added the LED Factory Mart sequential turn/drl under the headlight.
Wired those with a fuse to the INJ. Likewise, they are always on when ACC is.
