Easier for you to read my build thread below. :)
But in a nut shell if you want the MOST,
    2” pulley
Fuel upgrades to accommodate the extra boost,
    Methonal injected
    Ported supercharger
    Cat back exhaust
Headers, but I don’t have those because I see to many issues over time for a daily driver for myself

If it weren't for the body lift, and the wheels, and the excessive height...hmm.

At least its easy to check the frame for rust.

Maybe, but my 1st gen extended cab has both the 3RZ, 5sp and the e-locker rear. Is it really that rare?

I have no idea, just seems like it would be pretty uncommon.

I understood the e-locker was only standard with TRD and I think that required SR5 and V6. So to get it with a 4 cylinder meant it would have had to been specifically ordered that way and the locker as an option didn't exist after the first couple of years.

Could easily be I am grossly misinformed, too. Was the e-locker an option all the way up to 2004? Maybe there are more than I think.

I’ve been following this as well, but in secret so my wife doesn’t find out that I’m toying with the idea of a V8 swap. Lol

The I4 doesn’t come with a locker with the TRD package, it’s a rare option.

Come with what? You could get a locker with a 4 cylinder. At least early on it was a stand alone option you could add to any truck.

It came standard with TRD and that may have required starting with a V6 SR5. Which is why my thought was a 4 cylinder with a locker would be fairly rare, since it had to be ordered that way specifically.

A 2004 brochure I have seems to indicate only V6s got lockers by then.

It's an option you could've ordered, it just didn't come with the TRD package like the v6 does.

There are two very rare first generation Tacomas. One series that is rare are the regular cab 1995.5 to 1997 4x4 3.4 V6 trucks with a ton of options, and the other series that is rare are the 2001 to 2004 Tacoma step-side 4x4 pick-ups especially the ones with the 3.4 V6, and the 5-speed. You don't see many of those around.
