Wouldn't this only work if you have a locker on the rear axel?

Is there even anywhere in Kansas to get stuck, besides maybe mud?

I've been using one of these: https://kk.org/cooltools/griphoist-tirfo/
It's slower and more work, but more portable and versatile than a winch.
The one I have is rated at 4000 lbs with 1/2" cable.

A come-along doesn't even compare to a grip hoist - the griphoist is way more beefy. It also grips and pulls the cable, it doesn't wind it up on a drum.

I have used ratchet straps in a pinch, when we didn't have anything else. That was a fun day (not really...)

Ratchet Strap is only good for about 1' and then you'd have to reset it, not only that it will snap or pull the threads out.

Come-Along is about the least I would attempt a rescue with, after that the rig is getting burnt to the ground.

Check out the Wyeth-Scott 3 ton ratchet puller... they're pricey, but probably about the next best thing to a winch.

If that strap breaks you won’t want to be anywhere near it.

Neighbor tried it a few months ago.
His 2 wheel drive was stuck in his back yard. Wasnt alot of room to get another truck in to pull. He tried a big ratchet strap while I dug out a come-along.

Ratchet strap just didn't have the mechanical advantage to pull him out of slight muddy spot (not bad at all). We used his strap as a tree saver (so it was still useful), come-along had him out with about 50 lbs on the handle, no snatch block.

One of the worst stucks I ever had was in my 2 wheel drive, 1979 454 1/2 ton Chevy in of all places my grandma's backyard. It took my friends 1976 Jeep Honcho to pull me out. I loved those tall narrow bias ply highway tires but they did have their drawbacks in wet grass.
