It’s only noticeable when the truck is warm. No rough idle or loss of power, no codes. Nothing to indicate an issue, I’ve just never noticed it before.

    2017 Tacoma OR 4x4 (formerly a 1998 SR5 PU, 2002 OR 4x4, 1995 4x4 4Runner, 1985 4x4 Toy PU) ... and RIP’s (rust in pieces) to a Bronco II 4x4 & S10 Blazer 4x4
Sounds like the cleaning cycle of a Tacoma engine.

2019 Tacoma 3.5. I know what the cleaning cycle sounds like, I’m hearing a tick, tick, tick. Sounded like a lifter, just curious if any line else’s Tacoma makes this same “tick”?

Mine 3.5 sounds similar. The tick is normal for Tacoma when idling.

Does it sound weird while driving also?

Not that I can tell. Little bit of a rattle on down shift at slow speed and low rpm.

The tick is normal when idling, its the injectors. Now as far as ratting goes i am not sure, never heard ratting coming out of my truck. You did check oil? and its not getting low or anything right

Not low on oil. Maybe I’m just being paranoid. My previous 2 vehicles, Ram and GMC, gave me quite a bit of trouble.

Yea 3rd gen taco is not known for issues. Had some problems in first 2016, 2017 years but after that 99% of them run fine. Speaking of rattling, maybe look under the truck, its possible the skid plate is not bolted well, or something like that. Some piece that is not bolted well and keeps rattling, its probably not coming from the engine. The ticking sound is normal, its the injectors that spray when idling, to keep carbon build up down.

Here is a bonus video for you since you are new to Tacos. This is one of the best mechanics on youtube who explains and talks about EVERYTHING Taco has literally.

This is one of the sum up videos, but he has many others detailed for Tacos.
