Hello guys, this is my first post and I really need your help. First off, I have been having this rattling noise with my taco 17 access cab and I really can't figure out what is causing it. I tried to explain it to Toyota about it but they simply advice me to check if maybe something is rolling around the bed of my truck. I have a rack and tool box installed, but I know for sure they are tighten down and as far as stuff goes, I do not see any lose nails, screws, or tools laying around on the bed that will cause the problem (I do construction work) and even if I did, I do not think that is the cause of the noise. I have successfully recorded the sound of strange noise with my iphone and I will upload them on youtube. The sound happens when I try to keep it at 1500 rpm and it happens at any mph between 20-60 on highway. The strange noise also happens when I drive locally, but it's very random. I have already driven about 40K miles.

On first video, sound starts around 13 seconds. You probably need to turn up the sound.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZ60PdUBipw

Second starts at around 8 seconds. This may not sound like much because I am driving on highway, but there are times they get pretty loud and for a few seconds longer. This noise can happen anytime during the day and depends how hard I press the gas. As long as I am driving the taco, I pretty much get the strange noise everyday and it gets worrisome.

Can't listen to it at work. But I'm guessing its the cubby door rattling you might be hearing

There is a faint rattling sound. Just not sure where it's coming from... maybe one of the jump seats in the back rattling?

I feel like it’s probably coming from outside

D rings loose in the bed rail? Cubby door loose?
To me it sounds like its inside the cab.

100% sounds like the cubbie door. Stuff some cardboard in the crack and see if it mutes it

I have the same rattle. It's definitely coming from engine bay and sounds like lugging. I'm told it's normal. :notsure:

I had the d rings removed today, so I don’t think that’s it

It happens when your low Rpms and you give it throttle. Rattles like lugging for a second before the Rpms rise. In the manual, it says light knocking is normal. IMG_8335.PNG.jpg

If you find out anything is really wrong op, please report back. I have the exact same noise but have written it off as normal.

Sounds like engine knock to me, especially since it appears when you hit the gas. Try a tank of high octane fuel and see if it disappears.

Any luck? I have the same door rattle and it drives me nuts for a brand new truck.

It’s definitely the door panel rattling and I’m going to have Toyota look at it when I get the first service next month.

Definitely engine knock. Manual says it’s normal, so I’m not stressing over it.

I get the same noise in my truck on acceleration. It does sound like engine knock and afaik it is normal for the truck.

IIRC the engine has some sort of automatic self cleaning mode to it along with it having the atkinson and otto mode

Others may know more about those engine aspects more so then myself
