Rattling noise coming from engine whenever I come to a stop

Recently went off roading in my tacoma and on my way home I noticed that every time I brought the car to a stop, the engine would make a very distinct and loud rattling noise. Only happens for about a second or two at a time. Not sure what it could be and it only happens when the car is moving/coming to a stop so i can never catch it happening when I’m looking under the hood. The car runs perfectly fine but it’s never made that noise before and it’s very loud and apparent that something’s going on. No warning lights either. Any ideas?

 

lots of different types of rattles. I bet if you got a recording of it someone here would be able to identify what it is - or you could take it directly to a mechanic instead.

 

Loose bolt on the skid plate?

 

Diesel like rattle?

 

Do you have a skid plate? I would check that first. Could be heat shield too. Hell, it could be anything at this point. I would start poking around to see if anything was noticeably loose.
