I took it to the dealer when it was under warranty and they padded the dash with something.

Edit: I also had some door panel squeaking going on. I was going to dynamat the doors anyway, and after the dynamat, that addressed it. You might be able to ask the shop foreman to ride with you real quick to duplicate the noise so they don't charge you a diagnostic fee.

I would piss myself "alot" if that was in my truck considering Hawaii has no snakes, and that one doesn't look nice.

@khouan did you ever figure your sound out? I have a similar one, seems like its right between the gauges and the left ac vent deep in there, like a deep clicking sound when going over a bump. I can even swerve my steering wheel back and forth and get it while going slower. It's pissing me off and i cut my hand for the last time taking everything off and reaching everywhere!

I just got the truck back after it being at the dealer for over a week.

The noise is fixed, Here's what they found (summary of the service ticket):

"Verified concern, removed steering column and narrowed noise down to welded bracket attached to the re-enforcement bar, upper side secured to bulkhead by external bolt on the outside of vehicle behind cowl. Found that the bolt was loose. Bolt doesn't appear to be factory. Re-secured bolt, test drove vehicle and noise is now gone operating as designed."

So from what they told me it's caused by a loose bolt and is actually located under the cowl (plastic plate around windshield wipers). I didn't see it myself, but the noise is gone and this is all the information I was given.

Hopefully this can help some of you guys out with the same problem! That rattle was driving us nuts!

I'd actually like to know if this is a widespread issue so maybe a TSB can be started or something..

Son of a bitch, this whole time i've been digging around the inside, when toyota has a loose bolt on the outside.. Thanks @khouan i'm hoping you saved me some time and money from ripping my dash off arnold style

Oh and for anyone having the noise by your left ear /above driver window area.. i found a solution on here that has worked for me since i did it yesterday. Spray some wd40 in those holes on the weather stripping around the window inside, all the way around, every direction. Saturate that shit and wipe it away

Kenny, were you able to find that bolt? My truck is doing the same thing and I'm wondering what kind of pain I'm in for...

In mine i had the same issue. It was a broken piece of plastic. They popped off the dash and took it out and now it's all good!

This is on the left, in the dash between the gage cluster and the vent?

    Found and fixed.

It was the fastener that holds the driver's side foot vent tube. The fastener was loose, allowing its washer to rattle. Total bitch to get to. I used a 12" extension and u-joint, inserted from under the steering column, while looking up from underneath the dash to guide and keep the 10mm socket on it.

Good luck, Kenny. Hope this fixes yours too.

I tried, got a blur. It's too far in there for the camera to focus on. But there is only one screw holding in the vent, so it's not hard to find.

My brother had a similar tapping noise coming from his driver’s side window/door weather strip. Right by his ear. He wiped the rubber weather strip with 303 Aerospace and the tapping disappeared.

This stuff is great if you want to treat your door seals right. A little goes a long way, one tube lasted me 10 years of S2000 ownership.

My 05 Ram interior was tight for 11 years. Everything else broke on it, though :)

Initially, my stock 2018 dash noise started as a creak in driver side dash top, close to the windshield. Mainly, when shifting my 6-speed hard accelerating to freeway speeds along with certain bumps. Getting more frequent on all bumps and the cobblestone street in the hood. Only had the truck 4 months, not a happy camper. Can only imagine what BFG ATKO II's will do... My 2012 had the same thing, 2003 4runner & 2004 Tacoma stayed tight the years I owned them... missing those..
