    Hi all,

I just got back from an oil change at a local reputable shop I've used before and had a couple of weird things going on with my truck afterward.
    1. The shifter knob was completely loose moving left to right (automatic transmission on 2019 TRD OR). Easy fix that they helped with right away but I find it extremely odd that it went from rock solid to extremely loose when all they were doing was an oil change.
    2. I have a rattling under my truck. Seems to be coming from right under driver/just behind.
I didn't notice until I was driving away and once I got back the shop had closed up (I got my keys as they were closing the shop.

I am pretty pissed right now and plan on heading back in the morning when they open. Has anybody experienced this before after an oil change?

I’m guessing the rattle is your skid plate. They probably left bolts off or loose.

I sure have! I got ahold of someone and they mentioned that it might be the skid plate. Hopefully, that is all that it is!

I’m betting on the skid plate. 3rd Gen’s plates need to be removed to chain oil so that’s no biggie. The shifter knob is loose on mine too, not so loose that it wiggles all over the place but a firm little nudge and it will swivel.

I hope you didn’t go to the shop that claims they change oil in a few minutes, they couldn’t get my skid plate back on and left it dangling till it almost fell off in the driveway when I got home and was only on by just a couple loose bolts. Worst thing is, they never said anything about it at the shop. I figured it out later why it didn’t fit- their filter wrench was stuck between the skid plate and oil pan.

Ha no I didn't. It is a shop called Arthurs Automotive in Portland, OR. Established spot in the area I live in. My wife and I go there all the time. After this experience, I'm likely done. It's funny — I never had an issue when I was in my 20s with a beater car going to Jiffy Lube and stopped going once I got a nice vehicle. Since I've started going to local "reputable" places I've had a lot more issues.

Just my 2 cents but maybe it's just a one off. If they have been reliable, don't let one bad experience ruin that. Talk to the manager and express your concerns and see where that goes. It's hard to find a place that does good work and even then, they have a bad day occasionally.

That is a fair point. I will say that the last couple of oil changes have also been pretty sloppy with timing/when things will be done. Poor communication in general.

I don't take not going there any more lightly — I live less than a mile away and it is extremely convenient. Maybe after 10k miles I will have a change of heart. We'll see how they handle things when I am back in tomorrow.
