Manuals are getting rarer, esp in the new trucks, even in the outback.

    Hilux went IFS in 98....

I am currently poolside in Cancun on a much deserved vacation. We did a couple of trips outside of our resort and being a car guy, I was watching what was out there. The Hilux look here is on nearly every truck. Ute's by VW and other manufacturers are everywhere. Crewcab 2000's Rangers...(never seen one in Canada) being a former Samurai owner and still wished I kept my Tintop, was surprised to see 2022 model Jimny's running around still with live axle front and rear and a nicely updated but still very much Samurai look.

It would seem the US and Canada get the shaft when it comes to decent vehicles.

Oh, and every mini bus we have traveled in was a manual...

Vehicles in the US/Canada market could be so much better/cooler than they are. Even if I find a way to swap in this transmission, my truck still isn't going to be exactly what I want it to be...only one step closer. I'd still much rather have locking hubs, solid front axle, full time 4WD transfer case option, manual transfer case, torsen LSD rear option, etc. There could be a lot of different things people would totally want that they just simply don't offer.

Another video confirmed 5th and 6th are 0.777 and 0.64. Basically confirmed at this point to be the RC60F in the new truck. Obviously still need official confirmation, but it’s the only thing that makes sense.

I really hope it has the right input shaft!

Sorry, you're talking about 4th gen? So 4th gen MT is closer to a stock form of what you want, minus longbed?

I’m following the 4th gen transmission specs. Trying to see what it has to see if that would be an alternative swap option as opposed to buying the Mexican or Asian Hilux transmission and doing all the teardown and reassembly of it.

The ratios all match up to the RC60F that Jowett bought. If it IS the RC60F, whether or not it will work will depend on input shaft specs (length/spline count). Likely the bellhousing would bolt right up.

in other words, it seems like the new truck has the transmission we want. I want to confirm compatibility.

Lol. Don’t worry; I don’t want to spend any money either. It’s actually incredibly ironic that all this info comes out the day after I placed my order. That would only happen to me.

Now we wait and see the actual trans details once they’re out. It certainly has the ratios we want.

Yep. Which is really what this whole thread has been about for the last few years. I’m just hoping this is possibly a new way to achieve what the thread is trying to do. With my low axle gears, the insane low 1st and Reverse would be crazy. It’s already really good with just the regear. Plus the taller 6th would bring my high regear rpm back down a bit on the hwy. that’s really the beauty of the Hilux swap, is it makes everything more useful across the board.

I highly doubt it'll bolt up to anything close to the 2nd or 3rd gen trucks as it's a 2. something liter turbo inclined 4 cylinder that powers the entire line up with an I-4/ hybrid option( auto only) being offered later next year so the likelihood of the bellowing mating up to a 3.5l or 4.0l v6 is slim unfortunately, but would be nice to have something with some useable donor gears and not have an aluminum stub shaft for sure

If it’s the transmission I think it is, it’s already mated to other very different diesels that use a different bellhousing. Which the bellhousing can be swapped because Toyota went to a conventional removable bellhousing with the 3rd gen and that transmission is the same family as the 3rd gen so the bellhousing would be swappable. Ultimately swap-ability comes down to input shaft spline and length, and other factors if they changed them. Maybe they set the new motor up to use the same clutch and input spline/length that the diesels use. I hope not because then it would still require the disassembly. But either way, it will at least now officially be sold domestically.

if it’s just the simple Hilux RC60F being used, then a shifter piece needs to be changed and the input shaft needs to be swapped. Which is what the whole thread is about (for 3rd gens).

For what it's worth, the 2024 Tacoma with the T24A-FTS (TZNA45) uses the RC60F transmission.

Great to see confirmed, thanks. Do you see any other info on it where that confirmation came from? I'm wondering if it will be the exact same assembly as in the Hilux since it's all the same part number.

Thank you, I was not aware that with the RC transmissions toyota decided to be smart and make the bellhousing swappable( at least from the sounds easily compared to the older RA trans). Thank you for the info, and it makes me want to throw the 3rd gen RC( or possibly this new RC with its different gearing) behind my 1GRFE even more as it can be adapted to more engines potentially.

It will not be exactly the same assembly as the Hilux or Hiace/Granvia. It has a unique bellhousing/clutch setup, a unique input shaft, and unique shift lever.

I am not sure if it will be easier or harder to swap into the earlier Tacomas at this point. If the input shaft is the correct length, it could be a very easily accessible and swappable option for earlier Tacomas with the 1GR/2GR.

That will likely become clearer as more information becomes available.

Time will tell with the 4th gen RC60F. Fingers crossed for an easier swap and pricing that’s not ridiculous.
