@Jeff Lange are you able to see if transmission internals for the new model are using the same shift components as the RC62F or different? Curious because YouTube folks keep talking about how smooth it is. Not that the 62 was bad, but it was never really a highlighted characteristic. I’m wondering if swapping will net an improvement in that department as well as the improved ratios.

I briefly looked over things when I was checking if the GRN305 shift lever would fit the TZNA45 transmission and didn't see any differences whatsoever. Same shafts, forks, and synchros.

We’re getting closer to the 2024 RC60F being available…the 2024 parts catalog is now available, although it’s missing the transmission. Sometime between yesterday and today, the catalog updated to now have 21,750 parts. Hoping the transmission shows up for purchase soon. I’m about to downsize my tires in prep for it.

    Any updates here?

And I'm assuming this should also work for 2G as well (if it works...which it certainly seems like it should)? :bananadead:

The part from the 2024 truck still isn’t available. I canceled my order for now, only because I have more important things to buy and I want to wait and see if Toyota works out the 2/4/6 issue. Not sure if @Jowett has made any progress on his swap/build that this thread is truly about.

It can “work” in a 2nd gen but it won’t be a direct swap. Check out the write up from @BillDaCat8, what he did for the 3rd gen trans is essentially what the 4th gen trans would need as well since the 3rd and 4th gen transmissions are pretty much dimensionally identical.

Thanks my dude! I've not been paying much attention to 4G happenings, is there an issue shifting to 2/4/6 I am guessing?

Quick glance, looks like more parts/work but nothing horrible. We'll see how the 2G treats me box stock first, I've actually only driven 2.7 manuals in 2G flavor..but, would be a down the road thing anyway.

Yeah, for some reason the 2024 RC60F is having trouble losing 2/4/6 on some of them. The owners it has happened to describe it as it feels like it can all of a sudden no longer “reach” those 3 gears. Almost 100% of the transmission is built from parts reused from other applications. As far as I know, the only two parts that are new are the bellhousing, and the shifter extension. I believe there is some additional hardware for iMT but I don’t know much about that. Regardless, 2/4/6 don’t really share anything in common besides being on the same side of the shift pattern. My guess is something in the new shift housing extension is going bad on some of them, but we really don’t know right now. That’s a pretty simple part itself so it’s just a bizarre issue overall.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/manual-transmission-needs-replaced.829779/

if I had a 2nd gen, I would be looking to swap. 2nd gen’s have some significant design flaws on the 6-speed unfortunately. It’s not THAT bad of a swap but not bolt in like a 4th gen trans to a 3rd gen.

Haven't read through that yet but could just be a run of parts out of spec. These things happen...especially these days. I would be curious if the 4G production quantities represent a noticeable bump in production demands or not, extra stress on supply chains can introduce some growing pains.

I was going to just get an automatic, easier to find and then that solves the issue with the wife not being comfortable driving it. But, this thing fell in my lap, and, well; old habits I guess. Anyway I'm somewhat familiar with the 2G issues but regardless won't be blindsided should I run in to problems, and figured maybe the timing is right with the 4G hitting the scene.

The only extra part added for the iMT is the input revolution sensor, which was also already present in some RC6x transmissions in other applications (e.g., some Hilux models), so it's really not new either.

My order for the 2024 transmission was canceled by Sparks Parts due to the transmission being "too large to ship to your location." They charged quite a bit for shipping, so I'm not sure what that's about, but anyways. I am hopeful this means that now that the TSB is resolved, they are finally available or will be soon. I am going to order one at my local dealer, we'll see how that goes.

No idea, I don’t live anywhere near sparks so I didn’t try. I’ll do pickup at the local dealer for sure.

Yeah, more of a hypothetical than anything, but eventually they will be available. I hope at least..and ultimately I hope that I should hope they're available, and not just speculatively..

I’m sure they will be soon enough. They have to be available for purchase somehow, at least for the 2024 folks. I have a feeling they’re almost available for folks like us. I think the 2/4/6 problem probably was the main holdup from the time it hit the websites until now.

After about 4 different failed attempts, it looks like a 2024 RC60F may finally be attainable. Sparks parts cancelled my order due to the shipping being too high. Longo Toyota of Prosper cancelled my order due to some BS reasons made up by the parts manager that were not true (examples: $1000 core charge (no, Toyota doesn't rebuild manuals, therefore they have no need or want for cores), there is "paperwork" to buy this transmission (also no, it is a simple purchase of a new part like any other)). BAM Wholesale and Toyota Parts Deal cancelled them due to not being able to ship immediately.

This year, I placed an order with the Black Friday Sale since there is now an official US part number, 33030-04080. Ordered it to my local dealer in McKinney for a total price of $2580. Not too bad for a $3800 MSRP. I wanted to do this last year, but we didn't have part numbers yet nor did we know the transmission from the 2024 would work. So this year is the first year this can be purchased for a reasonable price.

They told me that it will arrive by freight in a couple weeks (coming from Ontario, California) and they also just gave me a notice that it is not returnable. Seems like it is the real deal this time and that it won't be cancelled.

Couldn’t have done it without you posting all the info, Jeff providing kickass parts info, and Dave pointing me to the thread to begin with :)

It’s just lucky that the 2024 is working out. I somewhat wonder if people at Toyota read this thread and subtly tried to help. Had that not become an option, I had pretty much given up.
