After about 3 hours, the driveshafts, exhaust, shifter, crossmember and supports, and transfer case are all out. Transmission is drained. Wiring is mostly freed up from the transmission.

Those top bellhousing bolts are going to be a bitch. Still working on the accumulator and disconnecting its lines. I have a feeling once that’s done; I’ll be able to lower the transmission more for a shot at the bolts. After that it comes out.

I used judicious extensions and one u joint when doing a sequoia a while back. Top two bolts took just as long as all the others plus wiring harness combined

It’s funny, the wiring harness took me forever but the bolts took like 10 minutes. I got to all of them with a 30” extension.

The wire harness was the worst part of pulling the tranny. The rest really isn't that bad. Glad you're making headway!!

It’s out, bellhousing is off. Had to jack the rear of the truck 4-5” above the dollies to get the thing rolled out from under the truck. No way was I going to try to slide the transmission out and the new one back in and try to heave it up onto the jack under the truck.

It’s only 9:30 but I may be calling it a night, mainly because the next step is wrestling the new one out of the box and onto the Jack, which sounds heavy and annoying lol.

Interestingly enough, the shifter piece is NOT correct. The short one is the one from mine and so I will be moving it over. They use a shit ton of red loctite on it, so I will be doing the same. Guess they don’t want it coming off.

I always have a better next day when I leave a little something on the table..possibly because usually when I run myself into the ground I don't stop until I've made some dumb mistakes, haha. Good progress man!

Lol. I know how it goes for sure…just swapped my jeep flywheel a couple weeks ago and I was so impatient I was making mistakes and doing things out of sequence constantly. I was so pissed because the flywheel I installed from Luk was made incorrectly and it threw off my timing. Huge waste of my time and money. Wish I could get factory parts for that jeep still.

I’ll probably call it quits, but for now I keep doing little things here and there…

Looking forward to tomorrow’s update. But I agree, I find things end up easier when I take breaks while I’m ahead.

Yeah, I’m about done now. I did pick up the old transmission off the jack and set the new one on there. Bellhousing still needs to be swapped. Since I want to clean the old, that will wait until tomorrow.

Essentially, first thing in the morning will be the flywheel and clutch stuff. Then the bell housing, and then throw ‘er all back together. The flywheel and clutch will take far more of my time than I’ll want them to.

It’s a good one, although my jeep transmission hates sitting on there. The Toyota doesn’t like it much either but it’s a lot better than the jeep. Both are aisin transmissions.

It’s a lot better of a jack than the more expensive and heavier ones that have the flat plate with the adjustable arms to cradle the transmission and a crappy chain to tie it down that barely works or even gets tight.

I’ve called it a night. Last thing I did was remove the bellhousing that will not be used and then took front pics comparing the two. The only real difference in the front cover plate is the release fork support mount thread. I think I’m going to leave it and use the newer cover. Otherwise I’ll have to deal with RTV and such (I’m pretty sure) and I really see no issues with just using the 2024 version.

I also did mount the slave cylinder and accumulator and my concerns about the hard line hitting the input revolution sensor are unfounded. The hard line clears perfectly fine with probably half an inch of space, so nothing needed there. Just leave the sensor so it can seal the hole.

Had One of those jacks at the dealership. The nice part was the thing could extend like 6 ft up in the air so it worked well for cars on lifts. The extendable arms and crappy chain worked really well too... If you supported them with like three heavy duty ratchet straps lol :muscleflexing:

Thoughts on what sealant to use on the flywheel bolts? I found this chart from Toyota:

    IMG_0692.jpg

They recommend 1324 for the bolts, which according to this chart means Loctite 271 (thread locker red). Are we sure that’s the best for keeping out oil? Seems weird when the bolts already have a dry thread locker on them.

I bought Loctite 567 based on some forum opinions elsewhere, but naturally I have 271 on hand so I can use either. I’m indecisive on what to go with. It probably doesn’t matter much but I’m anal about this stuff so I want to go with the “right” choice. So I’m leaning toward the 271 due to this document I found.

    Thoughts?
