I miss the push down lockout that my frontier had. They put it to the right of 6. I preferred that with a push down to what we have. What I like the best is the pull up collar lockout with R next to 1, like the Bronco and current Jeeps have. Closer to driver, but not going to grab it accidentally.

I’ve always liked the Ford finger collar as the lockout. They’ve done it for a very long time.

But I bring up BMW because they put reverse in the same place with the same kind of resistance gate that Toyota does on the Tacoma. And for some reason I have an occasional issue with one but not the other.

The maximas had the pull-up collar and it was nice.

I forgot the frontier had to push down lockout. And with all the snow and nonsense we've got here I've been missing my 17 Pro 4X even more

Great trucks, those are…if I could transplant that drivetrain into my truck I’d be pretty happy lol. Although I’m pretty happy as is now.

Right? Like my lottery garage definitely has several of both trucks in various configurations in it.

This is the last update I’ll post for a while (just to prevent boredom from unnecessary repetitive updates), but it’s been over 3k miles on the new transmission now. I’ve done two long road trips down to Houston with it and a lot of daily city/highway for work and personal. I have swapped back to stock size (265/70R16) Michelin Defenders and retuned my truck from stock back to the Lite (-) tune file out of my OTT tune pack. For the most part, this thing is a bunch of fun to drive…finally.

The transmission is my favorite mod I’ve done to the truck. Reverse is a bit sticky still but everything else is great.

MPG has for sure improved, but by how much depends on the circumstance. Headed into the wind at 75 mph I was able to get around 16-17 on a road trip, which is better than ever before. If I keep speeds slower, like 65, then I can achieve 20-22 if wind isn’t too crazy. That’s not too amazing compared to a bone stock truck, but that’s pretty good for the massive gearing gains I have down low now.

The transmission is absolutely quieter in the OD gears than the RC62F, no more high pitched whine making me feel like I have extra tinnitus at 70 mph.

If the gearing makes sense for you and the Black Friday $2600 + additional misc parts cost works with your wallet, then I highly recommend this transmission. That’s really all else I can say about it besides the long term updates as the miles climb.

Good to hear, thanks. It seems to be getting better but it definitely still is crotchety randomly.

    This and that
1st time I tried to put my truck in reverse it wouldn’t go, I was probably pushing down coming from the German cars, but regardless it had resistance. I looked it up in the manual sittting in a parking spot, maybe 10 miles on the truck. Didn’t want to break my brand literally stinking new truck.

    My shit is all stock.
I’ve gotten into the habit of putting it into 3rd or 4th to stop the input shaft from spinning before trying to jam it into reverse or first. Coming from idling in neutral with the clutch out anyway. (Sitting at a light or whatever)

Clutch in, pop it into 4th(or 3rd), then into reverse (or first). Just falls right into gear. I blame the heavy ass clutch disk I’ve got for acting like a flywheel.
Even though it’s disengaged, the heavy disk of my particular clutch is still spinning. So, it’s overworking the synchros to slow that down to get it into gear.

Hm strange. Did not have issues getting into reverse when truck was new.

Although throughout the time I owned the truck, I got locked out of R 5-6 times. I was to blame as I wasnt paying attention and was trying to go in R very quickly.

I did change to MT-90 at about 18K miles. Very, very slight improvement overall. Mostly noticeable in colder weather.

Underneath the truck for an oil change today and noticed this. Nice.

    IMG_0162.jpg

I’m leaking at the silicone sealed edge where the front case half mates to the intermediate plate. It’s a very slow leak but I don’t really know what to do about it.

I’m tempted to swap back to stock, sell this transmission for a decent deal to someone who wants to tinker with it and reseal it, and move onto a 4th gen or something else.

    Leaking means puddles and refilling.

Seeping means wet parts, but.... Eh. It'll be fine.

I guess I say leaking because it’s collected enough to where it’s about to drip. Who knows, probably already has dripped some, I park kind of all over the place so it would be impossible to tell by looking at any parking spots. It’s not losing enough to really matter, but it still bothers me for the future. Especially if it could get worse.

No joke. I would be looking at it everyday and asking questions and coming up with worst case scenarios in my mind.

I'm guessing that's not a mating surface that you were in charge of

I'm inclined to agree here, I'd check that the case fasteners are properly torqued and monitor the fluid levels over the next few oil changes to get a feel for the leak rate.

Absolutely sucks, but unless you're really getting the urge to redo all the work and scratch that 4G itch, I don't see anything I'd immediately panic over (unless the bolts are under torqued - at which point I start wondering, well, what else is loose..). But all that said, if you do pull it to sell, let me know. :D

Oh man, that's a bad leak. Clearly a basketcase. I'll swap you my '22's oem 6mt and xfer case and $500 for your troubles.

I have tried to get one through Capistrano Toyota, it’s like 25% off. My purchase won’t go through. Even still there bot sends me emails, “something left in your cart”. Got a 5% shipping code. Still no RC60F.
