thanks for all the support and help so far guys, its really just blowing my mind, as of right now the only lights that light up inside the truck are the guages, clock, radio info screen, and the overhead temp. doesnt matter if i turn the headlights on or off, these are the only lights that light up.

Hook a voltmeter up to the green/white & green wires. You should get 12V when you flip on the headlight switch and 0 when off. But then again you did say that those lights don't turn on when you turn on your lights. Gotta troubleshoot everything...there's gotta be a logical explanation.

How about the soldered end of the 4x4 switch, no shorts there? Kinda hard to tell from the pic.

Yeah this sounds like Jhodge's issue, although he ended up cutting the wires and re soldering them all together.

yes the tail lights do work, actually thats a lie, good thing i checked! :eek:and good thing i didnt get pulled over, surprised i didnt!!! so, what does that mean that the tail lights dont work? i was actually wondering if i could cut the wires and resolder everything, i having been soldering for very long, just picked it up recently so i was also wondering if maybe there was somthing i did wrong in that process.

Yea you may want to resolder those power supply wires and just leave out the 4x4 light for now until you first fix getting power back to your AC control module. Also verify the continuity of your 4x4 switch...make sure the red wire on power supply end is only connected to the red on the switch end and not white. Make sure it's disconnected from the power circuit though, otherwise if it's still connected and the headlight switch is in the off position, you'll get the impression that the red and white wires are shorted together.

Can you turn the air on/off and toggle the vents? It really sounds like you blew a fuse though.

Edit: just wanted to make sure I understood, did you say that you are new to soldering? A continuity check will tell if you've made good soldering joints or not. Do you have a multimeter to work with?

okay, can i just cut the red and white wires where i soldered to disconect them from the harness? i want to at least get my tail lights working, assuming a problem from the same source.

then i would just pick a new spot on the green wires to solder the red and white to correct?

Yea you can just snip them or even just touch it with the soldering iron and pull them back off. Once you fix the other issue then you could reconnect to the same spot on the green because a wire's a wire and location doesn't matter.

How did you strip your green wires originally...did you cut them or leave them in tact?

Just out of curiosity...is your truck automatic and do the shifter lights turn on?

okay, im about to go do that! when i stripped them originally i just took a knife and made a small cut in the insulation and peeled away until i had enough room.

i have an automatic and the shifter lights do not turn on either

Yea then I believe it could be your fuse. Replace the 10A Tail fuse anyway even if it doesn't look like it's burned out...sometimes fuses can look like they're still good, but really be bad instead.

However, still disconnect your 4x4 light wires because you just might have a short that caused that fuse to blow.

Whoa whao whao, its a FUSE, i have done this exact same thing. You shorted out the two wires at some time, this blows the fuse under the steering column. If i remember right it is fuse 20. check again, it is the problem trust me.

Hey if you need a second set of eyes let me know. I live in Chantilly and work in Lorton so if you're in the area and haven't figured out the problem send me a PM. Mine went in good with no problems so if you wanted to check how I did mine for reference just let me know.

yep you guys were right! it was fuse number 3 i believe under the dash, a 10A fuse for taillights, instrument illumination etc. i first disconnected the 4x4 light and when nothing happened i put 2 and 2 together and remembered the question about my tail lights, looked up that fuse, replaced it, and my lights came back on. i will resolder everything tomorrow and update you guys as to what happens

joneill03 - if i dont get it figured out tomorrow i might take you up on that offer. i live in stafford and work in prince william.

thanks again guys, ill update tomorrow if i get it working or not.
