I agree. I don't think the Yakimas will get it done. I will post a review of the Freespirit once I get it in.

Just FYI, they are out of everything in their FSR series until sometime in July, but have a lot of Extreme Series in stock. Just a little more expensive, but still not bad.

I would really like to get a bracket that works like the KB Voodoo one to allow for use of a tonneau cover. I really miss mine already. Any thoughts?

Here is the truck now with the rack and the Freespirit Extreme RTT.

I will say that the rack was an easy install and the RTT was a bit harder. If anyone decides to go with an FSR tent, please do yourself a favor and buy longer M8 bolts than the ones they give you. The RCI rails are a bit thicker than most and the provided bolts are too short to attach to the tent.

Overall, the tent is well made and quite large. The diamond plate flooring and upgraded fabric make a difference.

I will post a full review after we camp this weekend but here are some install shots.

Thanks man. The diamond plate flooring and thicker material make the tent about 180-200 lbs and then the rack is supposed to be 75 lbs.

Before I put the rack and tent on, I just added a 1" spacer in the rear to support a little more weight in addition to a 2" front lift, so the rear was about .75" higher than the front, but now it sits just about level. So there was a little sag, but really not much.

I imagine with my wife and I in the tent it will sag more but the truck is parked at that point so I don't care.

First trip with the new tent! Everything went incredibly well. Tent was comfortable and set up went quickly and easily.

We ended up in the High Uinta Mountains about an hour and a half outside of Salt Lake City. The truck and the tent definitely enable you to get pretty far from anything and anyone. Here are some pics.

Yeah, the shoe bags come with the extreme tents.

You can choose to have the tent open driver side, passenger side, or rear. The ladder can only be bolted in one place, so you don't move that, you just rotate the actual tent to accommodate where it folds out.

What tent did you end up going with?

    it's the tepui kukenam sky...
i'm hip to the ladder being fixed to the tent - but why choose ladder left or ladder right? a coin flip i spose...
hopefully we'll have some pics soon that are not in the driveway!RTT 1.jpg RTT2.jpg RTT3.jpg

Looking good guys. Ordered my FSR tent today. Hopefully it ships fast, I go on vacation in a week. Were you guys able to just buy those M8 bolts at a Home Depot or ace? Any unique length required. I went with this over the tepui because I liked the canopy and it's got a thicker material on every portion of the tent. All for the same price. Hopefully I don't require an extreme or a ruggedized since I didn't wanna choke out $600 more on it.

Also I got my flag decal on and it looks killer!

    thx mike...
with the tepui, all mounting hardware was included which worked fine with the rci bedrack...
    about heavier cloth...
all of these tents are "rated" 4 season...one somewhat disappointing realization after popping up the "lighter" weight fabric tepui was how dark it is inside...guess i'm just used to lighter weight 3 season ground tents...& i'm in socal...glad i got the "sky" model which, after removing the rainfly, has zippered skylights w/ no-see-um mesh for light, ventilation, & stargazing...
hope yours shows up in time for your vaca!! & where are you in co???...spent over 10 years in boulder...
    cheers, dave

I live in basalt which is near Aspen. I grew up near Denver tho and am moving to Castle Rock in March. Work brought me to the mountains.

I ordered the fsr canopy and reread this thread where someone said they didn't have any in stock just the extremes. So I got a call from Casey who said the fsr series would be in on the 14th so I wouldn't get it in time for my camping trip. He then put me on hold and offered to give me a discount on the extreme and I was all over that. So I have an extreme shipping my way Friday. Pretty excited since I really wanted the durability of it and it's 4 inches wider. He also put in for longer bolts so I can attach it to me rack with no issues. Nice guy and he takes care of his customers so no complaints from me.

Heck yeah! Looking good! My buddy just sold me some brand new Treds for next to nothing. Now I need to figure how to mount these and my rotopax.

I had the exact same situation with FSR. They were out of the regular FSR series, so I got an extreme for a super discount.

Regarding the bolt question, the extreme will come with M8 bolts that are too short to go around the RCI rack. I got longer ones from ACE and I think mine were 2.5" long. You really only need an extra inch or so more than the bolts that come with the tent. The other piece of advice I would give on that tent would be to do everything with the tent on two saw horses. It just makes it easier to put on the truck and to install the rails on the bottom. The extreme tents are SUPER heavy.

I look forward to seeing the finished product!
