I recently installed the RCI Rocksliders. There is 1 bolt that is rubbing on the brake line toward the back of the truck.

I removed that bolt because I can feel the abrasion on the the brake line from it rubbing on the bolt.

Is it ok to use the rock sliders without that bolt?

There was one other bolt that was touching the brake line behind the module thing but barely so i just use a piece of rubber on it to prevent it from rubbing on metal.

Interesting. The brake lines on my 2017 are not metal and not near any of the bolts for the RCI sliders. Maybe you can wrap that brake line with some Tessa tape. That should remedy any rubbing issues.

I thought about wrapping it but I think I would feel more comfortable with the bolt out.

Just bend the brake line away from the bolt. You can do it with bare hands as the brake line is quite pliable. Temporarily unclip the line from the plastic holders if you need more leverage.

I thought about doing that too but it will then sit on the cross beam it goes over and rubs on that. But I Guess I could do that and put a rubber pad on where it touches on that cross beam.

^Get a piece of 1/4" fuel hose, cut a lengthwise slit in it, and wrap it around the brake line.

When I installed sliders on my Lexus and had a little contact, there was a mounting bolt for the brake line junction nearby and I just shimmed it out with washers just enough to get the line off the nut. And then slightly bent the line for a couple more mm of clearance.

Bend the line or just install the bolt the other way

Thank you all for your suggestions and help on this.

I flipped the bolt so the bolt head is on the inside and a little bending of the line as suggested. That did the trick. All clear now.

The good news is that RCI does their own painting now, and uses epoxy primer. The powder coat on mine were terrible and rusted easily. I had to fix them.

Interesting. Do you know when they started that? I got my sliders in 2019 and they seem to be holding up well.

That is a problem. I ground the head down on that same bolt so it was more rounded and was clear of the line itself, then put nylon spiral loom around the brake line. If you don’t do something it might very well wear through

funny I just got mine delivered with powdercoat. They got pretty dinged up on delivery and need quit a bit of touch up work. They were poorly packed in my opinion with them being a finished product only shipped wrapped in a plastic bag inside a cardboard box no other type of protection with the top plates bouncing around inside the box.

I’m not sure. I think it was not long after 2017 and when they moved to their new location in Loveland. I was one of their early customers. I bet you’re OK.

That’s too bad, sorry to hear that! Dealing with shipping damage is a PITA.

After install, I’d suggest spraying CRC Marine coating all under there. I sprayed my frame too. I love that stuff, stays on way, way longer than fluid film. Fluid film is still good for penetrating seams though.

especially if you have the top plates, they catch and hold a lot of stuff. Hard to wash it all loose.

Thank you. Paint touch up this week and install in a few weeks. I've got waxoyl and will spray the crap out of the underside of them once on the truck.
