What are they there for, extra support? Any downside for them being taken off?

So that's the weight of each slider? That good ind thank you. CBI webpage mentions 150 lbs. I guess weight it's also part of the equation.[/QUOTE]

Weights are from my Fedex invoice.

I think they are just there to give some protection to the catalytic convertors. I'm pretty sure you can't fit the RCI skid without removing them but I didn't try.

No downside. I think they’re just support brackets. Never had an issue since removal.

Thanks everyone that voted and to everyone that gave me their input in this thread, today I ordered the RCI 5 degree sliders for my truck :) the pictures that everyone posted really helped me to make the final decision. I was also considering Mob Town since there were quite a few people that suggested them as well and their customer support was awesome too (they replied to my messages on the same day that I asked them) but they were a little more expensive ($136 more) so I went with RCI.

It was a hard choice to make between RCI, CBI, and Mobtown thats why I took so long to decide but I felt like the longer I waited the bigger the chance that some idiot will ding my doors by opening their doors too wide where I live so since RCI had the 15% off coupon and the other two companies only had regular price I went with RCI who sold quality DOM sliders for the lowest price.

I’m sure you’ll be happy with your new sliders but just so others know, Mobtown is running a 15% sale as well.

I have RCI sliders. Love them. Got them about 6 months ago. They were easy to install.... even by myself with no jack! They look sweet. You will love em.

    Good luck!

I have RCI sliders that I bought in a group buy a few years ago. They’ve been great and have saved me from my own stupidity several times.

I have Mobtown skids and a Demello front bumper. I’d gladly spend more money with all 3 companies. You can’t go wrong with any of them.

Oh I didnt even know that Mob Town Off Road had a 15% off code too, I didnt see it on the main page like on the RCI page, maybe it was listed on social media and I missed it?

Yeah thats one of the things that attracted me to their sliders, they dont have weird adapters and L bolts and no cutting or removing a bunch of parts from the drivers side to prep for install is required. They do require that you remove some cables from the drivers side but you put them back afterwards.

Rock Sliders definitely look like a great way to protect trucks while mall crawling or off roading, I think of them as side armor for my truck :p

I've been running the C4Fab bolt on sliders and RCI Skid plates. The sliders are bulletproof--they have taken some hard hits and no frame damage or slider damage apart from some scraping. The RCI Skids need ONE improvement before I can really recommmend them. The engine skid has these tubular verticle supports that DON'T CRUSH under load, or heavy impact. The effect of this is that the CRUSH THE FRAME they are bolted to. There is no crumple in those supports, even with the aluminum skids. On my second set I drilled a ton of holes into the tubular support so it would crush. You could see them stretch to take up the space where the frame crushed from the first set. Thankfully for my case it was only about a half centimeter of crush, but if I hadn't pulled them off to inspect I would have never known.

Edit: Just want to be fair-- a lot of skids use this mounting method, and it may or may not be a problem, probably won't be a problem for most--just depends how hard you run your truck and your specific setup. For me, it was a problem. For others, who knows. I drive like an idiot--play stupid games win stupid prizes.

I’ve put RCI sliders on my last couple Tacoma’s and have been very pleased with them. Very well made and their powder coating is good also. And the lead times are hard to beat. Nothing worse than spending a pretty coin on something and having to wait 3 or 4 months or even more to get what you ordered. 27C34721-D20C-477C-8AF0-A4EE041040AB.jpg

Thanks, I really like how the sliders wrap around the truck. If may ask, did you chose to add the plate for esthetics or is it functional?

If you have a wife or kids then the plate will be a lifesaver for them. Don’t know how many times my wife yelled at me when I had some sliders on my 17 Pro without a top plate. Ended up selling them to get a set with the plate. But if I was single I might get them without the plate. Dirt does get caked on them so it makes them harder to keep clean. Other than that I don’t see a negative on having a top plate.
