    I have a trd pro 2018 on a 4.5 inch lift with 315s and its a manual

is it worth re-gearing up to the 4.88s?

I’d say yes if ya want the truck to get out of its own way.

    At least 4:88’s.

I’m assuming it would probably be worthwhile to combine doing a URD stage 2 clutch, URD heavy flywheel and 4.88s all at the same time since the work is so closely related?

If so, will probably wait on all those till my OEM clutch starts to slip in a couple years (or till I can convince myself to spend another $1500).

I wouldn't say clutch work and regearing are closely related. I'd regear now and then wait to replace your clutch. FWIW I'm on the original clutch at 190k+ miles on my truck. Had my hands on it since 168k and have been wheeling hard with 34s damn near the whole time. No clutch issues.

    all that is true ^

but @Trident904 has a stage 3 URD with the re gear and all that so he can talk to the experience.

Stage 2. Stage 3 is not conducive for crawling.

I was going to get the ov tune but want to swap the gears out before 10,000 Miles. Will I see a considerable difference in the 4.88s? Or should I go all the way to the 5.29s?

I don’t see much discussion about regearing manuals. Here’s a breakdown of highway speeds and RPM with 33s and 35s, combined with 4.3, 4.88, and 5.29 gears. It looks like the stock 4.3 gears will be adequate, even with 35s, but I know guys have been happy they switched to 4.88s too.

Ive got 315s and am perfectly content with the 4.30s for all on road scenarios tbh. I spend most of my time on trails in 4LO to save my clutch and thats perfectly fine as well. Looking at the speed charts, the difference in highway cruising speeds between 4.30s and 4.88s is only about 400 rpm on average, which is a bit meh for a multi-thousand dollar upgrade.

At this point Im only considering regearing to 5.29s so it actually feels like I did something, and so I can get a front locker at the same time. Its literally my lowest priority remaining mod on this build, and definitely not a "need". Your mileage may vary, I guess. But for reference i can still chirp tires on stock gears, and wheel just fine, so Im thinking many of the responses from people saying "you cant get out of your own way with stock gears" either dont actually have 315s (most likely), have autos and forget that manuals come with 4.30s from the factory, or are just parroting bad info theyve heard the instagram legends say.

Youll be mega pissed about our shitty steering rack long before the gears bother you on 315s

I didn’t even screenshot 5.29s with anything less than 35s because it looks like such a bad idea. But here it is...

I appreciate the info, ive had 315s since October with the 4.30s and seem fine. Just looking into OV tune and the dump pipes now for more low end. Patiently waiting on FI.

@Jibbs how's 4.3 manual gearing treating you on 35s after a few more months? tempted to make the jump up in size, but don't want to re-gear yet until I can get both F/R arb lockers. What are your experiences with it in the different terrains, is it noticeably worse in some than others? i.e. rock crawling, sand, snow, mud. I'm assuming it's the most noticeable in rock crawling. I notice that I have been using 4LO a LOT more lately to save my clutch.

Still perfectly fine. I dont have a point of comparison for bigger gears on trails but 4Lo is really such a workhorse Ive had no issues. That said, Im also not wheeling the rubicon or anything with seriously huge rocks. Id consider the rock gardens around here moderate at best compared to some of the stuff out west

Haven't had any issues. Like he said above 4low with 35s and the 6 speed is insane.
