    Did the 4.88 regear happen?

I'm in the same situation w/ a MT looking at a 4.88 nitro re-gear. I'm not running tires as large. On 31s now but would likely only go as high as 33s.

Because you have a manual with 4.3... You don’t need to regear for 31s at all. Even 33s the change would be minimal. See above pictures of RPMs/speeds for different gears and tire sizes.

I have a 2017 manual TRD off road 4x4 and i saw that it doesnt make much of a difference. Im on 28575R16s but i also have a steel rear bumper, roof rack, steel rock sliders. Would you still say that 4.3 gears would be fine? Or would i see a noticeable difference with 4.88s since im carrying extra weight and planning to get a bed shell? Im also thinking of doing it bcuz in other threads ive seen people recooperate their mpg

Your rpm will match the pics I posted, regardless of weight. If you feel your acceleration is sluggish, you can regear. I have the same setup as you, and I’m sticking with stock gearing. It would take a lot of miles to recoup the regear cost with the mpg difference at today’s gas prices.

I have stock tire size on my 17 manual trans but I want to jump to 33 and I tow 4k through wv mountains a couple times a year do you think stock gears would still be okay or go to 4.88 or 5.29?

Not sure the deal with you 3rd gens are but I am sitting on 285 75 16 and went from my stock 3.73 to 4.56, and towing my 4,800lb camper around the east coast has been an INCREDIBLY lot easier. In my opinion, my re-gearing to date has been my best mod hands down, and without a doubt the most noticeable.

I called nitro gears today and they said you can even use 5.29 with stock tires for manual transmission as the rpms are only a few hundred off but the gains for hill starts are way better on the 5.29s. I'm planning on going 5.29s because I will eventually go 35s, front+rear bumper. I currently am on +1 from stock All Terrains with 2 batteries in the back, camper shell, roof rack for both cab and camper.

e: I'm also not doing it for the MPGs, as I don't think that's a valid reasoning to re-gear since it's so minimal. Power delivery is actually fine for me once I get up to speed especially with OVTune, but it's hill starts and slow maneuvers that are killing my clutch since I have to slip it a lot more. Trying to reverse up a slight slope, forget it. I'm on urd stage 2 with heavy flywheel.

e2: I think it's better to be over-geared than undergeared. Just slap some more weight and bumpers on it

What issues have you had with the steering rack?

That it's made for a midsized truck on 31s and not for a midsized truck on 35s.

It's livable but you'll be mad in parking lots and even more mad making 20 point turns on trails that you find out are dead ends...if you wheel anyway

Fair enough! I have a leak somewhere in my rack - only about 42k miles on the truck. Running skinny 34s, was definitely feeling the many-point turn on the trails yesterday!
