Okay, so I've poked around on here a lot looking for a definitive answer. Honestly, I feel like there is a mixed responses on how much it cost to have a re-gear done on my truck. For all intents and purposes, I own a Regular Cab 4x4, Manual, obviously this truck has the 2.7l engine.

My concern is that i've upgraded to a larger tire/wheel combo and have lost a lot of "power" on my daily commute. My bigger concern is that I pull a 16.5 foot bass boat and although I can pull the boat, its not very efficient, nor was it easy to pull the boat up the ramp last weekend.

So, down to the nitty gritty of this post is this; I called a local shop here in my town. They lift trucks, put on the big tires, etc., etc. I was roughly quoted $2000 dollars, including parts for my rear diff. Then as I was talking with them I said, "its a 4x4, you know, so i'm going to have the front done as well". He quoted me essentially $4000 dollars opening bid, after I said that. He also explained it could "go up in price" because of rebalancing the axle or something.

SO, is this a load of crap or what?! I LOVE MY RC SOOOO MUCH!! I would love to be able to have a little more "towing" power, but not have to go on the hunt for the V-6 Tacoma.

are there any driveline shops in your neck of the woods? better to check with experts, than all in one outfits. I would imagine the ball park would be $1k per axle for parts and install.

4k is way steep unless you're having lockers put in

The thing about his estimate is - he's charging you as much for the front as the back.

Doing the tacoma front clamshell is a lot more work than the back, both to get it out in the first place, and to crack it open and set up the gears. So expect to pay more for the front than the back.

That the guy's giving you the same number for both indicates he doesn't know tacomas and is pulling a number out of his armpit.
